12VDC to 240VAC MI5736 IMPORTANT Danger high voltage Please read and understand this manual before installing and using this inverter. DANGER! High voltages inside; do not open the inverter case while power is connected. Do not connect to equipment that exceeds the inverter’s specified power rating. Permanent damage may occur that will not be covered by the warranty. Types of Inverter. PURE MODIFIED There are 2 types of inverters available for use in consumer applications. These are: Pure Sine Wave Inverters: The name “pure sine wave” inverter comes from the wave form of its output, as shown in the above diagram. This is identical to or replicates as closely as possible the normal AC mains. As most electronic products are designed to be powered by sine wave AC, pure sine wave inverters are suitable for all applications, especially motorized devices where it is proven that pure sine wave power will lengthen the product’s lifetime and run much quieter. Pure sine wave inverters are more expensive than modified sine wave inverters because they involve a much more complicated design in order to simulate the smooth sine wave output of standard mains power. Modified Sine Wave Inverters: Again, modified sine wave are named after their output waveform. The output of the modified sine wave inverter cycles through positive, ground and negative voltage as shown in the diagram above, to give a rough approximation of a sine wave. Modified sine wave inverters are a cheaper alternative to pure sine wave inverters as they don’t require the complicated system needed to smooth and render the output waveform. The main down side with a modified sine wave is that it can introduce electrical noise (buzzing) to inductive and A-V equipment. This is caused by the fast reversal of the output voltage 100 times per second. However, modified sine wave inverters are OK for heat element devices (kettle, heaters, etc) and devices that have an external or built-in adaptor (laptop, TV, etc). How do I choose between Modified Sine Wave or Pure Sine Wave Inverters? Inductive loads such as microwave ovens run faster, quieter, cooler and more efficiently on pure sine wave. Pure sine wave reduces audible and electrical noise (buzzing) in fans, fluorescent lights, audio amplifiers, TVs etc Pure sine wave prevents crashes in computers, glitches and noise in monitors Pure sine wave reliably powers the following devices that normally won’t work with modified sine wave inverters: Laser printers, photocopiers, magneto-optical hard drives. Some fluorescent lights with old-type ballasts. Power tools using variable speed controllers AC motors. Sewing machines with speed/microprocessor control. Battery chargers General Safety Precautions and Installation Tips: Place the inverter on a reasonably flat surface, either horizontally or vertically. The inverter should not be installed in the enginer compartment, due to possible water/oil/acid contamination, and excessive heat under the bonnet, as well as potential danger from petrol fumes and the spark that an inverter can occassionally produce. It’s best to run battery cables to a dry, cool mounting location. Keep the inverter dry. Do not expose it to rain or moisture. DO NOT operate the inverter if the inverter, the device being operated, or any other surfaces that may come in contact with any power source are wet. Water and many other liquids can conduct electricity which may lead to serious injury or death. Do not operate the inverter in dusty environments. Keep the fan clean and free of dust. Avoid placing the inverter on or near heating vents, radiators or other sources of heat. Do not place the inverter in direct sunlight. Ideal operating temperature is between 10°C and 30°C. Allow at least 2 inches (5cm) of air space on all sides of the inverter. During operation, keep away from materials that may be affected by high temperatures. In order to properly disperse heat generated while the inverter is in operation, keep it well ventilated. While in use, maintain several inches of clearance around the top and sides of the inverter. DO NOT use the inverter near flammable materials DO NOT install inverters in unvented battery compartments DO NOT expose the inverter to temperatures exceeding 40°C DO NOT connect live AC power to the inverter’s AC outlets. The inverter will be damaged even if it is switched OFF. CAUTION: Any internal adjustment on the inverter is prohibited.
POWERTECH MB3940 Dual Input 20A DC/DC Multi-Stage Battery Charger to Suit Lead Acid and Lithium-Type Batteries User Manual Important Safety Instructions WARNING! To avoid any personal injury, please read the safety instructions below. This battery charger is not intended for use by children or infirm persons without supervision. FOR AUTOMOTIVE AND RECREATIONAL VEHICLE 12V DEEP CYCLE BATTERY USE ONLY. NOTTO BE USED WITH DRY CELL BATTERIES. During the charging process, do not use a naked flame near a battery. Batteries generate explosive gasses during the charging process that may explode. Never smoke or light cigarettes near a battery. Do not place tools on top of a battery or allow tools to fall on the battery to prevent the chance of a short circuit and sparks. Always wear eye protection when charging a battery. Ensure charging and testing is conducted in a well-ventilated area. Inadequate ventilation may over-heat the charger and cause in-efficient operation. This battery charger is not intended for outdoor operation. Do not expose it to moisture or extreme weather conditions. The ACID/FLUID within a battery is highly corrosive and poisonous. It can produce flammable and toxic gases when recharged and will explode if ignited. When working with batteries, always wear eye protection, remove jeweler and ensure the area is well ventilated. If spilled it will cause severe burning to eyes, skin, clothing, damage paintwork and corrode many metals. Ensure that power is disconnected from any appliance in the vicinity of the spill and immediately wash any area that has been affected with water. The warnings, cautions and instructions detailed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. Common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product and must be supplied by the operator. Key Charger Features This charger is a sophisticated multi stage charger, utilizing switch mode and fully automatic computerized control, designed to charge most 12 Volts AGM/Gel, Lead Acid Lion and Calcium batteries. Heavy duty aluminum case and mounting brackets Microchip monitoring and control Fully automatic high frequency multi stage charging Pulse mode technology that reduces oxidation, evens electrolyte consistency and minimizes temperature equating to longer battery life Easy push button chemistry select: AGM/Gel, Calcium, Lion, Deep Cycle, VRLA and conventional flooded Lead-Acid batteries Internal charger temperature monitoring and power output control LED indicators showing state of charge Over charging, short circuit and over temperature protection Reverse polarity protection: 1. Input reverse polarity protection 2. Output reverse polarity protection Thermal overload protection Solar input overload protection Power cut memory function: once selected, the charger will remain on this battery type until it is changed Installation Options/ Instructions Installing the Charger Installation of this unit will require twin core wiring – and suitable cable connectors (not included). See specifications page for details. Any existing cables used in conjunction with this charger will require checking to ensure size is suitable gauge. Where necessary replace with suitable gauge wiring if they do not meet minimum specifications.* Locate where you are going to install the DC-DC charger. Ensure the charger is located in a suitable dry area in the vehicle or caravan. Ensure the charger is securely mounted. Charger can be mounted overhead, vertically or horizontally. Next, measure required cable length from the main vehicle battery through to the location of the DC-DC charger. Ensure ALL cabling meets specification and will not be exposed to excessive heat/moving parts or abrasion. If the charger is located in a camper/caravan we recommend the use of an Anderson style plug between the tow vehicle and the camper/caravan as shown below. Fit suitable connectors on either end of the twin core cables. Connect the auxiliary battery to(-) shared negative and(+) charger output using twin core wiring as per recommended cable size. Using the twin core wiring laid between the main starting battery and the DC-DC charger, connect the red(+) to the(+) DC input terminal and the black(-) to the(-) shared negative on the rear of the charger. Finally, make the power connections to the main starting battery of the vehicle. It is recommended to install a 25 Amp circuit breaker (not included) as shown on main diagram. The circuit breaker should be located close to the starting battery. Check all connections are tight. Suggested fitment to vehicle only Operating The Charger CHARGER DISPLAY: 1. DC BATTERY Once correctly installed, the MB3940 charger is a simple set and forget dual battery switch. Start the vehicle and let it idle. The charger will now recognize that there is charge being applied to the main starting battery. Once the main starting battery has reached 13.o volts the charger will begin to charge the auxiliary battery. The initial default setting is for AGM/Gel batteries. If you are charging a battery with a different chemistry simply change the battery type by pressing the battery type selector button on the front panel of the charger. Once selected, the charger will remain on this battery type until it is changed. The charger will continue to operate even after the vehicle has been switched off, however once the main starting battery falls below, 3.0 volts the charger will automatically shut off. 2. Solar Input Once correctly installed, the MB3940 charger is a simple set and forget dual battery switch. Once connect the input terminal with solar panels positive and negative, the charger will transfer to solar charge mode. If you are charging a battery with a different chemistry simply change the battery type by pressing the battery type selector button on the front panel of the charger. Solar charging requires an input of 16 to 25 volts from solar panels. When available solar panel voltage falls below 16 volts no charge will be delivered to auxiliary battery. Specifications WARNING! Failure to use recommended wiring will severely impact on performance of DC to DC charger. Charging voltages: NOTE: Battery manufactures sometimes specify charging voltages. Not observing their charging instructions may void your battery’s warranty. Additional Information Deep cycle batteries It is expected that this charger will be used to charge a ‘deep cycle’ type auxiliary battery. Deep cycle batteries are designed to provide battery power to run items like fridges and lighting in caravans and campers. It is generally accepted that the life of a deep cycle battery can be extended if it is not discharged below 50% of its full capacity. A fully charged 100 amp battery in good condition should offer 50 amp hours of power without impacting on its normal life expectancy. Your average compressor style fridge uses up to 5 amps. Over a 24 hour period it should use approximately 24 amp hours. Therefore if the 1 00AH battery is operating only the fridge (and receives no additional charge) it ideally will require recharging after 48 hours. To replenish these 80 amp hours using a 20 amp DC -DC charger will require at least 5 hours of driving. A twenty amp unit will require at least 2.5 hours of driving to fully recharge the battery. Undercharging a battery and discharging to below 50% can severely impact on life expectancy of most deep cycle batteries. The readings are taken at room temperature of 26 °C (78 °F); the battery had rested for 24 hours after charge or discharge. Voltage readings & specific gravity of electrolyte (lead acid batteries) can give an indication of your battery’ state of charge. Fault Finding Note for Vehicles using Smart Alternators: The negative input terminal of the MB3940 must be connected to vehicle chassis NOT Starter Battery negative terminal.
Once correctly installed, the MB3940 charger is a simple set and forget dual battery switch.

2. Solar Input
Once correctly installed, the MB3940 charger is a simple set and forget dual battery switch.

NOTE: Battery manufactures sometimes specify charging voltages. Not observing their charging instructions may void your battery’s warranty.

Additional Information

Deep cycle batteries

It is expected that this charger will be used to charge a ‘deep cycle’ type auxiliary battery.

Fault Finding

Note for Vehicles using Smart Alternators:
The negative input terminal of the MB3940 must be connected to vehicle chassis NOT Starter Battery negative terminal.

POWERTECH Modified Sine Wave Inverter User Manual Important Please read and understand this manual before installing and using this inverter. DANGER! High voltages inside; do not open the inverter case while power is connected. Do not connect to equipment that exceeds the Permanent damage may occur that will not be covered by the warranty. Types of inverter There are 2 types of inverters available for use in consumer applications. Allow at least 2 inches (5cm) of air space on all sides of the temperatures. In order to properly disperse heat generated while the inverter is in operation, keep it well ventilated. While in use, maintain several inches of clearance around the top and sides of the inverter. DO NOT install inverters in unvented battery compartments DO NOT expose the inverter to temperatures exceeding 40°C DO NOT connect live AC power to the inverter’s AC outlets. The inverter will be damaged even if it is switched OFF. CAUTION: Any internal adjustment on the inverter is prohibited. Do not disassemble.
POWERTECH MB3880 12V 140A Dual Battery Isolator Kit with Wiring Cables User Manual Installation of the Smart Battery Kit is a relatively simple task and requires no special knowledge of vehicle electrics and uses tools available in most home workshops. Tools required are: A. Cutting pliers, side cutters or cable stripper to cut and strip the cable B. Crimping or electricians pliers for terminal crimping C. Spanner set or socket set D. Philips screwdriver E. Hairdryer or flame for heat shrink F. Power drill and 4.5mm drill bit G. Voltmeter These instructions assume you have purchased and mounted you auxiliary battery (preferably a deep cycle)in your vehicle. Lay out your Smart Battery Kit and check that all the components are in the kit You should have: lx Smart Battery Isolator 1 x6000mm length of 10mm sq red cable terminated at both ends 1 x600mm length of 10mm sq black earth cable terminated at both ends 2xPositive Marine battery terminals lx Negative Marine battery terminals 3x SC16-8 Copper crimp lugs 2x Red heat shrink lx Black heat shrink lx Insulated blue ring terminal 6x300mm cable ties 4x Self tapping screw 2x M6 nut 2x M6 spring washer Isolate the starting battery by removing the negative terminal. Select a location for the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR that is easily accessible and will not have the cables running near exhausts and is as close as possible to the starting battery. Remove the lower mounting plate from the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR to use as a template and mark the position of the two (2) holes to be drilled. Drill the holes using a 4.5mm drill bit. Secure the two (2) blind holes of the base with the short 4mm screws. Take the 6000mm length of red cable, which has been terminated at both ends. Begin from the centre of the mounting plate and run the cable along the inner guard and firewall to the positive terminal of the starting battery (be careful to keep the wiring away from any moving parts). Cut the cable to length. Repeat the above process to the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery. WIRIMG DIAGRAM 8.Strip the un-terminated ends of both cables back 15mm, fit the copper lugs and crimp in place, making sure the connection is secure Alternatively you can solder the cable to the lug if you wish. Slide the heat shrink over the lug and cable then heat with a flame or hairdryer until secure. Attach the insulated ring terminal to the black wire on the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR. This is an earth wire and it is important that it has a secure and clean (Bare Metal) contact. If possible select a nearby bolt or screw that is earth to the body. Attach both red cables to the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR and tighten the retaining nuts. The cable from the start battery goes to the stud on the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR with the painted RED dot. The cable from the auxiliary battery goes to the unpainted stud. Note-You will have to cut the notched sections in the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR housing where you require the cable to exit. Mount the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR to the bottom plate and fix with the two (2) longer 4mm screws. Secure the black earth lead on the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR to the selected earth point. Fit the Positive (Red+) battery terminal and the Negative (Black-) battery terminal to the auxiliary battery and tighten. Auxiliary battery BLACK earth cable – Select a nearby body bolt or drill an 8mm hole in the inner guard and secure one end of the 600mm black earth cable, make sure to have a secure and clean (bare metal) connection. Attach the RED lead from the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR to the positive (+) terminal of the auxiliary battery and then secure the cable using the cable ties. Attach the other end of the BLACK earth lead to the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery. Before fitting the battery terminal to the positive side if the start battery, check the type of the existing battery terminal and if it has a stud and nut on the terminal to secure the existing wiring connect to the existing terminal. Attach the RED cable from the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR to the positive (+) terminal of the start battery and secure the cable using the cable ties. Reconnect the start battery earth cable. Please carry out the following tests before driving the vehicle. Test for a proper earth on the auxiliary battery by placing a voltmeter across the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals and take a reading. Remove the negative (-) probe and place on an earth point on the body or engine (not the point the earth cable is mounted), both readings should be the same. If the readings are not the same check the earth cable has a clean and secure mounting. Start the vehicle’s engine. When the starting battery’s voltage reaches cut-in 13.3V the relay will close automatically and allow the auxiliary battery to be charged. This is indicated by the red light on the front panel of the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR being illuminated. Ensure that the auxiliary battery is charging by checking that the voltage is above 13.0V. Turn off the engine. Check that the SMART BATTERY ISOLATOR disengages when the start battery’s voltage falls below cut-out 12.8V.This can take some time so to speed up the process turn on the headlights or leave the door open and interior lights on. Use of the Emergency Override (Yellow Wire) Connecting the wire to battery negative (or chassis) will force the relay to close, regardless of the voltage of the starting battery. The main purpose of this is to allow the vehicle to be started from auxiliary battery if the starter battery is flat. It is recommended that a push button (momentary) switch be used for this.

WIRIMG DIAGRAM

8.Strip the un-terminated ends of both cables back 15mm, fit the copper lugs and crimp in place, making sure the connection is secure Alternatively you can solder the cable to the lug if you wish.

Use of the Emergency Override (Yellow Wire)

Connecting the wire to battery negative (or chassis) will force the relay to close, regardless of the voltage of the starting battery. The main purpose of this is to allow the vehicle to be started from auxiliary battery if the starter battery is flat. It is recommended that a push button (momentary) switch be used for this.
