Quick Start Guide

Thank you for buying this Pioneer product. This Quick Start Guide includes instructions for basic connections and operations to allow simple use of the receiver. For detailed descriptions of the receiver, see the “Operating Instructions” provided on the included CD-ROM ().

Enjoy easy multichannel playback with this unit in 3 steps: Connecting up → Initial setup → Basic playback.
Connection and initial setup can be performed by referring to this Quick Start Guide, but it is easier when using the Wiring Navi in AVNavigator.
Perform connection and initial setup with either method according to the circumstances in which you are using AVNavigator.
Additionally, using the Interactive Operation Guide in AVNavigator allows you to learn basic operations effectively.

Using Built-in AVNavigator

Connecting to the network through LAN interface

Connecting to a wireless LAN

Wireless connection to the network is possible through a wireless LAN connection. Use the separately sold AS-WL300 for connection.
• Use only the furnished accessory connecting cable.
• Certain settings are required to use a wireless LAN converter (AS-WL300). For instructions on making these settings, see the operating instructions included with the wireless LAN converter (AS-WL300).

Plugging in the receiver
After connecting to a LAN, connect the power cord of the receiver to a power outlet.

CAUTION

Handle the power cord by the plug part. Do not pull out the plug by tugging the cord, and never touch the power cord when your hands are wet, as this could cause a short circuit or electric shock. Do not place the unit, a piece of furniture, or other objects on the power cord or pinch the cord in any other way. Never make a knot in the cord or tie it with other cables. The power cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be stepped on. A damaged power cord can cause a fire or give you an electric shock. Check the power cord once in a while. If you find it damaged, ask your nearest Pioneer authorized independent service company for a replacement.
Do not use any power cord other than the one supplied with this unit.
Do not use the supplied power cord for any purpose other than that described below.
The receiver should be disconnected by removing the mains plug from the wall socket when not in regular use, e.g., when on vacation.
Make sure the blue STANDBY/ON light has gone out before unplugging.

1 Plug the supplied power cord into the AC IN socket on the back of the receiver.
2 Plug the other end into a power outlet.

Turning the power on
Press STANDBY/ON to switch on the receiver and your computer.
Wait a few minutes after turning the power on before performing the following operation.

Launching the built-in AVNavigator

Operate AVNavigator by following the screen prompts of your computer, etc.

Operating environment

AVNavigator can be used in the following environments.
-Windows PC: Microsoft® Windows® XP/Windows Vista’/ Windows® 7/VVi ndows® 8/Windows 8.1
-Mac OS: Mac OSX (10.7, 10.8 or 10.9)
– i Pad/i Phone/i Pod touch: iOS 7
-Android device: Android 4.0.4
Some AVNavigator functions use an Internet browser. The following browsers are supported:
-Windows PC: Internet Explorer® 8, 9, 10, 11 -Mac OS/iPad/iPhone/iPod touch: Safari 6.0
-Android device: Android browser
To use certain AVNavigator functions, you must install the latest Adobe® Flash® Player. For details, visit the following website. http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
Depending on the computer network setting or security setting, AVNavigator may not operate.

Using Windows PC

Launch Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of this unit in the address field of Internet Explorer. (Access the IP address“http://(the receiver’s IP address)” from a web browser.) You can display the IP address of the unit on the unit’s front panel display by pressing the STATUS button on the remote control.
With a Windows PC other than Windows XP, you can use the following method to launch AVNavigator.
Launch Explorer and then right-click displayed in the ‘Network’ folder, then click ‘View device webpage’.

Using Mac
Launch Safari and click displayed in ‘Bonjour’ on the Bookmarks bar.

• If ‘Bonjour’ is not displayed, tick the ‘Include Bonjour in the Favorites bar’ check box on the ‘Advanced’ tab in the Safari ‘Preferences…’ menu.

Using iPad/iPhone/iPod touch

Download a free application, iControlAV5, from the App Store. After launching iControlAV5, follow the instructions on the screen. After that, on the Home screen, press ‘AVNavigator’or the icon.
iPad

■ Using iPad
On an iPad, you can operate AVNavigator for iPad. Download AVNavigator for iPad from the App Store. After launching AVNavigator for iPad, follow the instructions on the screen.

Using Android device
Download a free application, iControlAV5, from the Google PlayStore. After launching iControlAV5, follow the instructions on the screen. After that, on the Home screen, press the icon.

About using Wiring Navi
Wiring Navi starts when ‘Wiring Navi’ is pressed on the AVNavigator screen.

• When connection navigation is finished, proceed to STEP 3.

STEP 1 Connecting up

Connecting the speakers
The receiver will work with just two stereo speakers (the front speakers in the diagram) but using at least five speakers is recommended, and a complete setup is best for surround sound.
To achieve the comfortable surround sound, install your speakers as shown below. 7.1 channel surorund system:

There are also other speaker connection patterns (front height, front wide, etc.). For details, see “Connecting your equipment” of the operating instructions.

Connecting the speaker cables
Make sure you connect the speaker on the right to the right (R) terminal and the speaker on the left to the left (L) terminal. Also make sure the positive and negative (+/–) terminals on the receiver match those on the speakers.
1 Twist exposed wire strands together.
2 Loosen terminal and insert exposed wire.
3 Tighten terminal.

CAUTION
• Before making or changing connections, switch off the power and disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet.
• These speaker terminals carry HAZARDOUS LIVE voltage. To prevent the risk of electric shock when connecting or disconnecting the speaker cables, disconnect the power cord before touching any uninsulated parts.

After installing the speakers, connect them as shown below.

Note
• When only connecting one surround back speaker, connect it to the SURROUND BACK L (Single) terminals.
• This unit supports speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 W to 16 W.

Connecting a TV and playback components

If the TV does not support the HDMI Audio Return Channel function, optical digital cable ( A ) connection is required to listen to the TV sound over the receiver.
If the TV supports the HDMI Audio Return Channel function, the sound of the TV is input to the receiver via the HDMI terminal, so there is no need to connect an optical digital cable ( A ). In this case, set ARC at HDMI Setup to ON. For details, see “HDMI Setup” of the operating instructions.
Please refer to the TV’s operation manual for directions on connections and setup for the TV.
With factory default settings, video from the video cable or component cable will not be output from the HDMI terminal. To output video, you must switch video input to the device connected with the video cable or component cable and set V.CONV to ON. For details, see “Setting the Video options” of the operating instructions.

Connecting antennas

Note

Refer to the operating instructions in the included CDROM if you wish to connect a TV or playback component in a method other than an HDMI connection.
Refer to the operating instructions in the included CDROM for other device connections.

Plugging in the receiver

Only plug in after you have connected all your components to this receiver, including the speakers.
CAUTION
• Handle the power cord by the plug part. Do not pull out the plug by tugging the cord, and never touch the power cord when your hands are wet, as this could cause a short circuit or electric shock. Do not place the unit, a piece of furniture, or other objects on the power cord or pinch the cord in any other way. Never make a knot in the cord or tie it with other cables. If you find it damaged, ask your nearest Pioneer authorized independent service
company for a replacement.

VENTILATION CAUTION
When installing this unit, make sure to leave space around the unit for ventilation to improve heat radiation (at least 40 cm at top, 10 cm at rear, and 20 cm at each side).

WARNING
Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation to ensure reliable operation of the product, and to protect it from overheating. To prevent fire hazards, the openings should never be blocked or covered with items (such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains) or by operating the equipment on thick carpet or a bed.

STEP 2 Initial Setup

Before you start
1 Put the batteries in the remote control.

The batteries included with the unit are to check initial operations; they may not last over a long period. We recommend using alkaline batteries that have a longer life
2 Switch on the receiver and your TV.

3 Switch the TV input so that it connects to the receiver.
4 Turn the subwoofer on and turn up the volume.

WARNING
• Do not use or store batteries in direct sunlight or other excessively hot places, such as inside a car or near a heater. This can cause batteries to leak, overheat, explode or catch fire. It can also reduce the life or performance of batteries.
CAUTION

• When inserting the batteries, make sure not to damage the springs on the battery’s (–) terminals. This can cause batteries to leak or overheat.
• When disposing of used batteries, please comply with governmental regulations or environmental public institution’s rules that apply in your country/area.

Automatically setting up for surround sound (MCACC)
The Auto Multi-Channel ACoustic Calibration (MCACC) setup uses the supplied setup microphone to measure and analyze the test tone that is outputted by the speakers. This setup enables automatic high precision measuring and settings; utilizing it will create an optimum user listening environment.
Important
• Measure in a quiet environment.
• If you have a tripod, use it to place the microphone so that it’s about ear level at your normal listening position.
Otherwise, place the microphone at ear level using a table or a chair.
• Accurate measurements may not be possible if there are obstacles between the speakers and the listening position (microphone).
• When measuring, step away from the listening position, and operate using the remote control from the external side of all the speakers.
1 Connect the supplied setup microphone.

2 Press MAIN RECEIVER on the remote control and operate.
• When the cursor is brought to Measurement Type and Basic is selected, the Speaker Setting/Channel Level/Speaker Distance is adjusted automatically. Selecting
Expert allows you to automatically adjust Standing Wave/Acoustic Cal EQ (frequency characteristics) as well.
3 Bring the cursor to START and press the ENTER button.
• Automatic measuring will start.
• Measuring will take about 3 to 12 minutes.
4 Follow the instructions on-screen.
• Automatic setting is complete when the Home Menu screen appears.

• If Reverse Phase is displayed, the speaker’s wiring (+ and –) may be inverted. Check the speaker connections. Even if the connections are correct, Reverse Phase may be displayed, depending on the speakers and the surrounding environment. This does not affect measurements, however, so select Go Next.
• If the power cuts out, the core of the speaker cable may be in contact with the rear panel, or the (+) and (–) cores may be touching, causing the protection circuits to activate. Re-twist the core of the speaker cable, and connect it so that it does not protrude from the speaker terminal.
5 Make sure the setup microphone is disconnected.

STEP 3 Basic playback

Multichannel playback

1 Switch on the playback component.
E.g.) Turn the Blu-ray Disc player connected to the HDMI BD IN terminal on.
2 Switch the input of the receiver.
E.g.) Press BD to select the BD input.
3 Press AUTO to select ’AUTO SURROUND’.
Also press SURR or ADV for multichannel playback. Select your preferred listening mode.
4 Start the playback component’s playback.
E.g.) Start playback of the Blu-ray Disc player.
5 Use VOLUME +/– to adjust the volume level.
• When a sound can not be heard from center and rear speakers, press SURR or ADV to change listening modes.
E.g.) Press the ADV button for several times to select EXT.STEREO.
• When there is no sound from the subwoofer Cause – The front speaker is set to LARGE.
When a 2-channel audio source is input, the low-frequency component is not output from the subwoofer but is output
from the front speaker.
Solution – To output from the subwoofer, change the speaker setting.
Method 1: Change the front speaker setting to SMALL.
The low-frequency component is not output from the front speaker but is output from the subwoofer. When the low frequency playback capability of the front speaker is high, we recommend the setting not be changed.
Method 2: Change the subwoofer setting to PLUS.
The low-frequency component is output from the front speaker and subwoofer. For that reason, low sounds are sometimes output too much. In such a case, we recommend not to change or to change to Method 1.
• For details, see “Speaker Setting” of the operating instructions.
• When no sound is emitted, increase the volume to approximately –30 dB.

Note
• When the remote control cannot be used to operate the unit
– When operating the receiver, press MAIN RECEIVER before using it.
– When operating functions such as the network, TUNER, or iPod, press the appropriate function button (NET, TUNER, iPod, etc.) before using.

Listening to the radio

1 Press TUNER to select the tuner.
If necessary, press BAND to change the band (FM or AM).
2 Press TUNE +/– to tune to a station.
• Press and hold TUNE +/– for about a second. The receiver will start searching for the next station.
• If you’re listening to an FM station but the reception is weak, press MPX to select FM MONO and set the receiver to the mono reception mode.

Saving station presets
If you often listen to a particular radio station, it’s convenient to have the receiver store the frequency for easy recall whenever you want to listen to that station.
1 Press TOOLS while receiving a signal from the station you want to store.
The preset number is blinking.
2 Press PRESET +/– to select the station preset you want, then press ENTER.
The preset number stop blinking and the receiver stores the station.

Listening to station presets
You will need to have some presets stored to do this.
• Press PRESET +/– to select the station preset you want.

Playing an iPod
• About one minute is required between turning the power on and completion of startup.
1 Connect your iPod.
An iPod/iPhone can be connected to the receiver.

2 Press iPod USB to select the iPod/USB input.
When the display shows the names of folders and files, you’re ready to play music from the iPod.
3 Use ↑/↓ to select a category, then press
ENTER to browse that category.
• To return to the previous level any time, press RETURN.
4 Use ↑/↓ to browse the selected category (e.g.,albums).
• Use ←/→ to move to previous/next levels.
5 Continue browsing until you arrive at what you want to play, then press ⇒ to start playback.

Listening to Internet radio stations
• About one minute is required between turning the power on and completion of startup.

Important

When using a broadband Internet connection, a contract with an Internet service provider is required. For more details, contact your nearest Internet service provider.
To listen to Internet radio stations, you must have high-speed broadband Internet access. With a 56 K or ISDN modem, you may not enjoy the full benefits of Internet radio.
Access to content provided by third parties requires a high-speed internet connection and may also require account registration and a paid subscription. Third-party content services may be changed, suspended, interrupted, or discontinued at any time without notice, and Pioneer disclaims any liability in connection with such occurrences. Pioneer does not represent or warrant that content services will continue to be provided or available for a particular period of time, and any such warranty, express or implied, is disclaimed.

1 Press NET repeatedly to select the INTERNET RADIO input.
It may take several seconds for this receiver to access the network.
2 Use ↑/↓ to select the Internet radio station to play back, and then press ENTER.

What’s What

Starting up the unit

Do not use the unit in Standard Mode when a speaker system for 3-way Network Mode is connected to the unit. This may cause damage to the speakers.

Wi-Fi connection

Do not attempt to operate the web browser while driving. Make sure to pull off the road and park your vehicle in a safe location before attempting to use the controls on the web browser.
When you use the browser, do not enter your important information such as credit card information, bank account information and personal information.
When you use the browser, do not install the software or program that Pioneer is not involved with. If you install such software or program, you may suffer from damages such as mechanical trouble or put your entered information in danger.

• Connect speakers with 4 ≠ to 16 ≠ impedance. Note that when connecting to both SPEAKERS A and B terminals, connect speakers with 8 ≠ to 16 ≠ impedance to both A and B.

Front Panel

STANDBY/ON button
SPEAKERS A/B button: Select the terminals to output audio from between SPEAKERS
A/B.
DIRECT button: Switches to the DIRECT mode which outputs pure sound as it was
intended.
Display (P5)
Remote control sensor: Receives signals from the remote controller.
• The signal range of the remote controller is within about 16y/5 m, at an angle of 20° on
the perpendicular axis and 30° to either side.
Bluetooth indicator: Lights when the unit is connected by BLUETOOTH. It will flash during pairing or if the connection is not correct.
MEMORY button: Used to register AM/FM radio stations (P15).
TUNING/PRESET button: Switch between the TUNING mode, where you select a
frequency to tune to a station, and the PRESET mode, where you select a preset station.
VOLUME
PHONES jack: Connect stereo headphones with a standard plug (Ø1/4z/6.3 mm).
Input Selector buttons: Switches the input to be played.
TONE button: Switches to the TONE mode which enables BASS and TREBLE. After
switching to the TONE mode, press again to see the settings for “Bass”, “Treble”, and
“P.BASS” with each press.
/-, +/ buttons: Used to tune to AM/FM stations, select preset numbers, and to adjust the sound quality.
BALANCE button: Adjusts the balance of the sounds output from the left and right speakers (P17).

Display

The currently selected speaker system lights.
Lights when headphones are connected.
Lights in the following conditions.
PRESET: PRESET mode has been selected with
TUNING/PRESET on the main unit.
RDS (European and Australian models): Receiving RDS broadcasting.
AUTO: When tuning mode is auto.
► TUNED ◄ : Receiving AM/FM radio.
FM STEREO: Receiving FM stereo.
Flashes when muting is on.
Displays radio and a variety of other information.
Lights in the following conditions.
SLEEP: Sleep timer has been set.
ASb: Auto Standby has been set.
Hz: May light while “Tuner Setting” in the Setup menu is being set.

Rear Panel

FM UMBAL 75Ω/AM LOOP ANTENNA terminals: Connect the supplied FM indoor
antenna and AM indoor antenna.
PRE OUT SUBWOOFER jack: Connect a powered subwoofer with a subwoofer cable.
SPEAKERS jacks: Connect speakers with speaker cables. You can connect a set of left
and right speakers to each of the A/B terminals.
Power cord
AUDIO IN jacks: Input audio signals from an other external device with an analog audio
cable.
LINE OUT jacks: Connect a recording device, such as a cassette tape deck. Connect to
the AUDIO IN jacks on the recording device using analog audio cable.

Remote Controller

STANDBY/ON button
SLEEP button: Set the sleep timer (P20).
INPUT SELECTOR buttons: Switches the input to be played.
Numbered buttons
DIRECT TUNING button: Use to select the number of a preset station or to directly input
the frequency of the station.
button: Temporarily mutes audio. Press again to cancel muting.
VOLUME buttons
Cursors (Up / Down / Left / Right), ENTER button: Select the item with the cursors and
press ENTER to confirm.
SETUP button: You can show advanced setting items on the display to provide you with
an even better experience (P18).
BASS buttons: Enhance or moderate the bass range (P17).
TREBLE buttons: Enhance or moderate the treble range (P17).
DISPLAY button: Switches the information on the display.
DIMMER button: You can adjust the brightness of the display in three steps. It cannot be
turned off completely.
buttons: Select the input to be played. The input changes CD → NETWORK →LINE 1 → LINE 2 → FM → AM → BLUETOOTH each time you press the button.
CLEAR button: Deletes all characters you have entered when entering text.
PAIRING button: Used to connect to another BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled
device (P12).
PRESET buttons: Used to select AM/FM radio stations (P15).
RETURN button: Returns the display to the previous state during setting.
DIRECT button: Switches to the DIRECT mode which outputs pure sound as it was
intended (P17).
TONE button: Switches to the TONE mode which enables BASS and TREBLE (P17).

Step1: Connect the Speakers

You can connect two systems, Speaker A and Speaker B, as the Speaker System. When connecting only one set, connect to the SPEAKERS A terminals. With one set, use speakers with 4 ≠ to 16 ≠ impedance.

Note that when connecting to both SPEAKERS A and B terminals, connect speakers with 8 ≠ to 16 ≠ impedance to both A and B.

Connect the speaker cable so the wires do not protrude from the speaker jacks. If the exposed wires of the speakers touch the rear panel or the + and – wires touch each other, the protection circuit will be activated.

Setup

When connected as a Speaker B System, you can output the same audio as Speaker A System by switching with A/B/A+B. Press SPEAKER A/B on the main unit to switch. The selection changes in the order SPEAKER A, SPEAKER B, SPEAKER A+B, Off with each press.
If any of the connected speakers have an impedance of 4 ≠ or more to less than 6 ≠, or when a Speaker B system is to be used, press SETUP (P7) on the remote controller, and set “SP Impedance” to “4 ohm”.

(*)You can also connect a powered subwoofer to the PRE OUT SUBWOOFER jack to boost bass playback even more. Use a subwoofer cable for connection.

Step2: Connect an other External Device

Connect an other external device with an analog audio cable.

Step3: Connect Other Cables

Antenna Hookup
Move the antenna around while playing the radio to find the position with the best reception.

Power Cord Hookup
The power cord must be connected only after all other connections are completed.

Playing Audio from a Connected Device

Basic Operations
You can play the audio from other external devices such as CD players through this unit.

Perform the following procedure when the unit is on.

Press the input selector button (a) on the remote controller with the same name as the jack to which you connected the player to switch the input.
For example, press CD to play the player connected to the CD jack. Press NET to listen the Network Audio Player’s sound.
Start play on the connected player.

BLUETOOTH® Playback

You can wirelessly play music on a smartphone or other BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device. Perform the following procedure when the unit is on.

Pairing

When you press (a), “Now Pairing…” is displayed on this unit’s display, and the pairing mode is enabled.
Enable (turn on) the BLUETOOTH function of the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device, then select this unit from amongst the devices displayed. If a password is requested, enter “0000”.
• This unit is displayed as “Pioneer SX- 10AE”.
• To connect another BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device, press PAIRING (b), then perform step 2. This unit can store the data of up to eight paired devices.
• The coverage area is 32y/10 m. Note that connection is not always guaranteed with all BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled devices.

Playing Back

Perform the connection procedure on the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device.
The input on this unit automatically switches to “BLUETOOTH”.
Play the music files. Increase the volume of the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device to an appropriate level.
• Due to the characteristics of BLUETOOTH wireless technology, the sound produced on this unit may slightly be behind the sound played on the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device.

Listening to the AM/FM Radio

You can receive AM/FM radio stations on this unit with the built-in tuner. Perform the following procedure when the unit is on.

Tuning into a Radio Station Tuning Automatically

The unit is set to the auto-tuning mode by default. If the signal from a radio station is weak, perform the procedure for “Tuning Manually” in the next section. Note that if you tune manually, the reception for FM broadcasts will be monaural rather than stereo, irrespective of the sensitivity of the reception.

Press AM or FM (e) on the remote controller.
When you press the cursor Up/Down buttons (c) on the remote controller, automatic tuning starts, and searching stops when a station is found. When tuned into a radio station, the “►TUNED◄” indicator on the display lights. When tuned into a stereo FM radio station, the “FM STEREO” indicator lights.

Tuning Manually
If you tune manually, the reception for FM broadcasts will be monaural rather than stereo, irrespective of the sensitivity of the reception.

Press AM or FM (e) on the remote controller.
After pressing SETUP (d) on the remote controller, use the cursor Up/Down buttons (c) to select “Mono” in “Tuner Setting” – “Tuning Mode”, and then press ENTER to set.
While pressing the cursor Up/Down buttons (c) on the remote controller, select the desired radio station.
• The frequency changes by 1 step each time you press Up/Down buttons. The frequency changes continuously if the button is held down and stops when the button is released.

Tuning into Stations by Frequency
It allows you to directly enter the frequency of the radio station you want to listen to.

Press AM or FM (e) on the remote controller.
Press DIRECT TUNING (b) on the remote controller twice.
Using the number buttons (a) on the remote controller, enter the frequency of the radio station within 8 seconds.
• To enter 87.5 (FM), for example, press 8, 7, 5 or 8, 7, 5, 0. If the entered number is incorrect, press DIRECT TUNING twice again and reenter the number.

AM Frequency step setting (European and Australian models):
Press SETUP on the remote controller, then use the cursor buttons and ENTER on the remote controller to select “Tuner Setting” – “AM Freq Step”, and select the frequency step for your region. Note that when this setting is changed, all radio presets are deleted.

Using RDS (European and Australian models)

RDS stands for Radio Data System and is a method of transmitting data in FM radio signals. In regions using RDS, the radio station name is displayed when you tune into a radio station broadcasting program information. Further, when you press DISPLAY on the remote controller in this state, you can use the following functions.

Displaying Text Information (Radio Text)

While the name of the station is being displayed on the display, press DISPLAY on the remote controller once. Text information broadcast by the station (Radio Text) is displayed scrolling across the display. “No Text” is displayed when no text information is available.

Search for Stations by Program Type

While the name of the station is being displayed on the display, press DISPLAY on the remote controller twice.
Press the cursors Left/Right buttons on the remote controller to select the Program Type you want to find, then press ENTER to start the search.
• The Program Types displayed are as follows: News (News reports) / Affairs (Current affairs) / Info (Information) / Sport / Educate (Education) / Drama / Culture / Science (Science and technology) / Varied / Pop M (Pop music) / Rock M (Rock music) / Easy M (Middle of the road music) / Light M (Light classics) / Classics (Serious classics) / Other M (Other music) / Weather / Finance / Children (Children’s programmes) / Social (Social affairs) / Religion / Phone In / Travel / Leisure / Jazz (Jazz music) / Country (Country music) / Nation M (National music) / Oldies (Oldies music) / Folk M (Folk music) /
Document (Documentary)
• In addition, there are three other program types, Alarm, Test (Alarm test), and None. Alarm and Test (Alarm test) are used for emergency announcements. None appears when a program type cannot be found.
• The information displayed may sometimes not match the content being broadcast by the station.
When a station is found, the station flashes on the display. Press ENTER while this is happening to start receiving that station. If you don’t press ENTER, the unit continues to search for another station.
• If no stations are found, the message “Not Found” is displayed.
• Unusual characters may be displayed when the unit receives unsupported characters. However, this is not a malfunction. Also, if the signal from a station is weak, information may not be displayed.

Registering a Station

You can register up to 40 of your favorite radio stations.

Registering
After tuning into the radio station you want to register, perform the following procedure.

Press MEMORY on the main unit so that the preset number on the display flashes.
While the preset number is flashing (about 8 seconds), repeatedly press the cursor Left/Right buttons (b) on the remote controller to select a number between 1 and 40.
Press MEMORY again on the main unit to register the station. When the station is registered, the preset number stops flashing. Repeat this procedure for all of your favorite radio stations.

Selecting a Preset Radio Station

Press AM or FM (a) on the remote controller.
Press PRESET (c) on the remote controller to select a preset number.

Deleting a Preset Radio Station

Press PRESET (c) on the remote controller to select the preset number to delete.
Press SETUP on the remote controller, then use the cursors and ENTER to start “Tuner Setting” – “Preset Erase” and delete the preset number. When deleted, the number on the display goes off.

Naming Radio Stations Registered as Presets

You can enter names of up to 8 characters for the stations you have preset. Uses the following procedure.

After pressing AM or FM on the remote controller, select a preset number.
After pressing SETUP on the remote controller, use the cursor Up/Down buttons (c) to select “Tuner Setting” – “Name Edit”, and then press ENTER to set.
Select the characters or symbols with Up/Down/Left/Right buttons (c).
Press ENTER (c) to confirm the selected character. Repeat this to enter text.
• Press DIRECT TUNING (a) to change the characters to be entered, for example to switch between upper and lower case.
• Press CLEAR (b) to delete all the input characters.
After completing input, select “OK” with Up/Down/Left/Right buttons (c) and press ENTER (c).

Characters that can be entered

Space: A single space the size of a character is entered.

Shift: Switches between characters
displayed. (a A)
(left) / (right): Select to move the cursor.
BS (backspace): Removes a character on the left of the cursor. The cursor moves left.

OK: Confirms the entered content.

Adjusting the Sound Quality

By pressing BASS, TREBLE, etc. on the remote controller during play, you can adjust frequently used settings, such as the sound quality.

BALANCE adjustments can only be made with the buttons on the main unit.

BASS (a)
Enhance or moderate the bass range of the speakers.
Select between -5 and +5 in 1 dB increments. (default value: 0)

It cannot be set if the DIRECT mode is selected.

TREBLE (b)
Enhance or moderate the treble range of the speakers.
Select between -5 and +5 in 1 dB increments. (default value: 0)

It cannot be set if the DIRECT mode is selected.

DIRECT (c)
Switch to the DIRECT mode which outputs pure sound as it was intended by by passing the tone control circuits during play.

TONE (d)
Switch to the TONE mode which enables BASS and TREBLE.

P.BASS
P.BASS is enabled which emphasizes the bass. Repeatedly press TONE (d) to display “P.BASS”, then press the Left/Right cursors to switch On or Off. (Default value: Off)

BALANCE (main unit only)
Adjust the balance of the sounds output from the left and right speakers.
Select between Li10 and Ri10 in 1 steps increments. (default value: 0)

Setup Menu

The unit allows you to configure advanced settings to provide you with an even better experience.

Press SETUP (b) on the remote controller.
Select the item with the Up/Down buttons (a) on the remote controller and press ENTER (d) to confirm your selection.
Select the submenu with the Up/Down buttons (a) on the remote controller.
Select the setting value with the Left/Right buttons (c) on the remote controller and press
ENTER (d) to confirm your selection.
• To return to the previous display, press RETURN (e).
To exit the settings, press SETUP (b).

Auto Standby
This setting places the unit on standby automatically after 20 minutes of inactivity without
any audio input.
“On”: The unit will automatically enter standby mode. “ASb” lights on the display.
“Off”: The unit will not automatically enter standby mode.

“AutoStandby” is displayed on the display 30 seconds before the Auto Standby comes on.
Default values vary depending on the regions.

SP Impedance
Set the impedance () of the connected speakers.

“4 ohm”: When any of the connected speakers have 4 or more to less than 6
impedance, or when speaker systems are connected to both of the SPEAKERS A/B
terminals
“6 ohm (default value)”: When the connected speakers all have 6 ≠ or more impedance

Note that when connecting to both SPEAKERS A and B terminals, connect speakers with
8 ≠ to 16 ≠ impedance to both A and B.
For impedance, check the indications on the back of the speakers or their instruction manual.

Tuner Setting

The setting cannot be selected when input other than “AM” or “FM” is selected.

Bluetooth

Sleep Timer

You can make the unit enter standby automatically when the specified time elapses.

Press SLEEP on the remote controller to display the time to set on the display.

Press SLEEP repeatedly on the remote controller to make the setting in 10-minute steps
from “90”, “80”, “70”, down to “OFF”.
0 After pressing SLEEP on the remote controller, you can make the setting in 1-minute
steps by repeatedly pressing the Up/Down buttons on the remote controller.
0 To see how much time is left on the Sleep time, press SLEEP on the remote controller.
While the remaining time is being displayed, you can reduce the set time in 10-minute
steps by pressing SLEEP on the remote controller.

Others Troubleshooting

Before starting the procedure

Problems may be solved by simply turning the power on/off or disconnecting/connecting the power cord, which is easier than working on the connection, setting and operating procedure. Try the simple measures on both the unit and the connected device. If the problem isn’t fixed after referring to “Troubleshooting”, resetting the unit to the status at the time of shipment may solve the problem. Note that your settings will also be initialized when you reset, so we recommend that you note down your settings before doing the following.

This unit contains a microPC for signal processing and control functions. In very rare situations, severe interference, noise from an external source, or static electricity may cause it to lockup. In the unlikely event that this happens, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait at least 5 seconds, and then plug it back in.
We are not responsible for reparations for damages (such as CD rental fees) due to unsuccessful recordings caused by the unit’s malfunction. Before you record important data, make sure that the material will be recorded correctly.

If operation becomes unstable

Try unplugging the power cord of the unit and connected devices, and then plugging them in again.

Resetting the unit (this resets the unit settings to the default)

If the issue is not fixed by unplugging the power cord, resetting the unit to the status at the time of shipment may solve the problem. Your settings will also be initialized when you reset, so note down your settings before doing the following.

While holding down SPEAKERS A/B on the main unit, press STANDBY/ON.
The unit switches to standby and the settings are reset.

Power

Cannot turn on the unit

Make sure that the power cord is properly plugged into the wall outlet.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait 5 seconds or more, then plug it in again.

The unit turns off unexpectedly

The unit automatically switches to standby when the “AutoStandby” setting in the Setup menu functions.
A speaker cable may have shorted and the protective circuit function may have been activated. Make sure bare speaker wires are not touching each other or the back panel of the unit, then turn the unit on again. If “NG” is displayed, immediately unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and contact your dealer.
The protective circuit function may have been activated because the temperature of the unit rose abnormally. If this happens, then the power will continue to turn off after you have turned the unit on again. Make sure the unit has plenty of space for ventilation around it, wait for the unit to cool down sufficiently, and then try turning it on again.

WARNING: If smoke, smell or abnormal noise is produced by the unit, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet immediately and contact the dealer or customer support.

Audio

Confirm that the connection between the output jack on the device and the input jack on this unit is correct.
Make sure that none of the connecting cables are bent, twisted, or damaged.
If the MUTING indicator on the display flashes, press on the remote controller to cancel muting.
While headphones are connected to the PHONES jack, no sound is output from the speakers.

No sound from an other connected external device

Change the input selector on this unit to the position of the terminal to which the other external device is connected.

A speaker produces no sound

Make sure that the polarity of the speaker cables (+/–) is correct, and that no bare wires are in contact with the metal part of speaker terminals.
Make sure that the speaker cables have not shorted.
Make sure the speakers are connected correctly (P8).

Noise can be heard

Using cable ties to bundle analog audio cables, power cord, speaker cables, etc. may degrade the audio performance. Do not bundle cords.
An audio cable may be picking up interference. Try repositioning your cables.

AM/FM broadcasting

Radio reception is poor or there is a lot of noise

Re-check the antenna connection.
Separate the antenna from speaker cables and the power cord.
Move the unit away from your TV or PC.
Passing cars and airplanes can cause interference.
Concrete walls weaken radio signals.
Listen to the station in mono.
When listening to an AM station, operating the remote controller may cause noise.
FM reception may become clearer if you use the antenna jack on the wall used for the TV.

The BLUETOOTH feature

Try plugging/unplugging the power of the unit and try turning on/off the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device. Restarting the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device may be effective.
The BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled devices must support the A2DP profile.
Radio wave interference may occur in the vicinity of components, such as microwave ovens or cordless phones, which use radio waves in the 2.4 GHz range. This interference may render this unit unusable.
If there is a metallic object near the unit, BLUETOOTH connection may not be possible as the metal can effect on the radio waves.

Cannot connect with this unit

Check that the BLUETOOTH function of the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device is enabled.

Music playback is unavailable on the unit even after successful BLUETOOTH connection

When the audio volume of your BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device is set low, the playback of audio may be unavailable. Turn up the volume on the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device.
Some BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled devices may be equipped with a Send/Receive selector switch. Select Send mode.
Depending on the characteristics or specifications of your BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device, playback on this unit may not be possible.

Sound is interrupted

There may be a problem with the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device. Check the information on the internet.

The audio quality is poor after connection with a BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device

Reception is poor. Move the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device closer to the unit or remove any obstacle between the BLUETOOTH wireless technology enabled device and this unit.

Remote Controller

Make sure that the batteries are installed with the correct polarity.
Install new batteries. Do not mix different types of batteries, or old and new batteries.
Make sure that the unit is not subjected to direct sunshine or inverter-type fluorescent lights. Relocate if necessary.
If the unit is installed in a rack or cabinet with colored glass doors or if the doors are closed, the remote controller may not work reliably.

Display
The display doesn’t light

The display may go dim while the Dimmer is working. Press DIMMER to change the brightness level of the display.

Others
Strange noises can be heard from the unit

If you have connected another unit to the same wall outlet as this unit, this noise may be an effect from the other unit. If the symptoms improve by unplugging the power cord of the other unit, use different wall outlets for this unit and the other unit.

Pioneer SPH-20DAB Car Radio Receiver Instructions

REMARKS

If you have any difficulty carrying out these instructions, please contact Pioneer Customer Support. Once upgraded to this version, it is not possible to downgrade to a lower version.
Please download and print these instructions before downloading and installing the firmware update. It is important that you complete all steps correctly and in the order described below.
This update applies only to SPH-20DAB models which are sold in Europe.

A. Check the current firmware version of the unit

PROCEDURE

Start the vehicle engine.
If AV Source is On, Press and hold SOURCE/MUSIC/OFF button to switch off the source. And if Pioneer Smart Sync is connected, please disconnect.
Press and hold the Application launch button, to display the “Initial ”menu. then press to confirm.
Press “>” repeatedly to select “UPDATE”, next press the Application launch button to confirm.
Select “S/W VER” to confirm the system info.
After the “S/W VER” screen appears, check the firmware version.

If the version number is 8.09 or higher, it is not necessary to update the firmware. If the version number is lower than 8.09, it is necessary to update the firmware. Please continue to Step B.

B. Downloading the Firmware Update File

Download the correct file from the website to a folder on your computer.

C. Create the System Firmware Update USB memory device

USB memory device requirements:

USB specification 2.0 and 128 MB or more in capacity
Should be blank (should not contain any files) and formatted in FAT32

PROCEDURE

Connect the USB memory device to your computer.
Double click the ZIP file named “SPH-20DAB_A0809.zip” to open it.
Extract and save the file named “99DREAM_DAB_A0809.scd” to a folder on your computer
Copy the firmware file “99DREAM_DAB_A0809.scd” to the USB memory device. Ensure that the update file is located within the root (top folder) of your USB storage device. There should be no other files on the USB storage device.
Confirm that the file name and file size are correct on the USB memory device. To check the file size in Microsoft Windows, select the file, press the right mouse button, and select “Properties”. If the file name and size do not match the ones listed above, perform steps A and B again.

NOTE:
If the correct file is not copied to the USB memory device, your unit will not recognize it as an update USB memory device and you will not be able to carry out the update.

D. Updating the Firmware on Your Unit

REMARKS:

Please DO NOT perform this firmware update if the model number of your Pioneer unit is anything other than the above listed model.
While your unit is being updated, DO NOT turn off the system’s power, DO NOT touch the unit’s buttons, DO NOT remove the front panel and DO NOT remove the USB storage device during the firmware update process, as this may result in severe damage to your unit.
Make sure to disconnect all external mobile devices connected to your unit.
The update process takes approximately 6 minutes to complete.

PROCEDURE:

Start the vehicle engine.
Connect the USB storage device to the USB input on your unit.
If AV Source is On, Press and hold SOURCE/MUSIC/OFF button to switch off the source. And if Pioneer Smart Sync is connected, please disconnect.
Press and hold Application launch to display the Initial menu.
Press “>” repeatedly to select “UPDATE“, next press the Application Launch button to confirm.
Select the “START” item for updating the unit to the latest software.
The “CHECK FILE” screen appears. If it shows “ERROR” on the display, Try the following “FILE ERR->CHK USB” Confirm that the firmware file is correct, next restart the update or change to a new USB memory.
After starting, there will be a progress bar while updating. If it shows “ERROR” on the display, try the following: “ERR->RETRY” Disconnect / connect the USB storage device. And press the Application Launch button to restart the update.
Wait until the update procedure completes. (approx. 5 minutes)
The product will reboot after the update is finished. Do not touch anything even when the screen is blacked out. After it has finished rebooting, the screen will return to Source OFF.
Press and hold SOURCE(MUSIC)/OFF to set the unit Source OFF.
Press and hold Application launch to display the Initial menu.
Press “>” repeatedly to select “RESET“, press the Application Launch button to confirm.
Select “YES” for a system reset.
Do not touch anything even when the screen is blacked out. After the unit has finished rebooting, the screen will return to Source OFF.
The firmware update is now complete. Your Pioneer Smartphone receiver is now ready for use.
Check if the firmware has been updated. Perform the same procedure “A. Check the current firmware version of the unit” to check if the firmware has been updated.

Installation Manual

If you want to dispose this product, do not mix it with general household waste. There is a separate collection system for used electronic products in accordance with legislation that requires proper treatment, recovery and recycling.
Private households in the member states of the EU, in Switzerland and Norway may return their used electronic products free of charge to designated collection facilities or to a retailer (if you purchase a similar new one). For countries not mentioned above, please contact your local authorities for the correct method of disposal. By doing so you will ensure that your disposed product undergoes the necessary treatment, recovery and recycling and thus prevent potential negative effects on the environment and human health.

Notes:

High degrees of skill is required to install this product, so have it installed by a professional Pioneer installer.
Use the cleaner to wipe the area of the windscreen where the antenna film, earth sheet, and amplifier block are to be located.
Cold glass needs to be heated with the car heater.
Install the antenna on the passenger side of the front windscreen.
Remove the backing gently.
Do not touch the adhesive side of the antenna film.
Completely dry the windscreen before mounting the antenna film.
When attaching the antenna film, smooth it gently from the edges to preventing air bubbles and wrinkles from forming.
Do not allow this product to come into contact with liquids. Electrical shock could result. Also, this unit damage, smoke, and overheat could result from contact with liquids.

Installation

Remove the pillar cover from the passenger side.
Check the attachment position (Fig.2)

Peel off Tab I and attach the antenna film to the windscreen glass (Fig.3)

Attach the antenna film, using your fingers to force out any trapped air by pushing in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Peel the sheet from the amplifier block and attach it to the antenna film (Fig.6) Fasten the Amplifier Block in place, lining up the mark on the Antenna Film with the bump on the Amplifier Block. Do not touch the terminals or the sticky surface.

Remove the backing from the earth sheet (Fig.7) Stick the earth sheet to the metal of the A pillar. No paint needs to be removed for the earth contact to work.
Refit the A pillar cover carefully

Connection

Connect the antenna lead to the dub antenna input on the main Pioneer unit (Fig.8)

3. Charging the batteries

The unit’s battery must be recharged before use. The accessory micro-USB cable must be used for recharging the unit’s battery.
Connect the appropriate connector on the accessory micro-USB cable to the micro-USB port on the headphones, and the USB plug on the other end to a USB port on a computer.

When recharging begins, the LED indicator on the headphones will light red.
If recharging is performed with the unit’s power turned ON, the power will automatically turn OFF. The unit cannot be used during recharging.
Full recharging requires about 4 hours; when recharging is completed, the LED indicator will turn off.
With a full battery charge, the maximum continuous usable time is about 15
hours.
When the rechargeable battery’s power become low, a beeping sound can be
heard from the unit once every 3 minutes, and the LED indicator flashes red. In this case, recharge the battery before using the unit.
Note
Battery recharging time and usable battery time may vary depending on ambient temperature and frequency of use.
Do not place metal objects near the headphones’ charging contacts, since dangerous electrical shorts or abnormal heating may result.
Notes on battery charging
This device cannot be used during charging. · Battery performance is influenced by the surrounding temperature. Charge the supplied rechargeable batteries within a temperature range of 10 to 35 degrees Celsius.
Do not overcharge batteries. In order to protect batteries, do not repeatedly charge the batteries that are already fully charged.
Batteries become slightly warm when charging. This is not a malfunction.
Please use the accessory micro-USB cable for recharging; using other cables may result in malfunction.
Recharging may not be possible if computer is in power-saving mode.
Always confirm the proper shape and orientation of the micro-USB cable plugs before attempting to connect to the headphones and computer.
Do not use micro-USB cables when tightly twisted or bundled, since fire or electric shock might result.
If you do not plan to use this product for an extended period, avoid storing it in a hot or humid location (such as in a vehicle or in direct sunlight). Storage in such locations may degrade the rechargeable battery and shorten the usable time.
If you do not plan to use this product for an extended period, charge it for approximately one hour before storing it. Long periods of storage with a full battery or without any charge may degrade the rechargeable battery and shorten the usable time.

4. Pairing

Pairing must be performed before the headphones can be used to listen to music or communicate using a Bluetooth device. For further details regarding the pairing procedure, consult the user’s manual for your Bluetooth device.

(1) While the power of the unit is off, hold down the () button until the unit enters pairing mode.

The pairing mode is confirmed by the LED indicator’s alternately flashing blue and red.
Release the ( ) button after confirming that the LED indicator is alternately lighting blue and red.
When in the pairing mode, if pairing is not completed within about 5 minutes, the power will automatically turn off.

(2) Turn on the power to the Bluetooth device you wish to pair with, and begin pairing; search for this unit (wireless headphones) from the paired Bluetooth device.

Set the Bluetooth device close (within one meter) to the wireless headphones.
These wireless headphones will appear in the Bluetooth device’s display as “SE-MJ553BT”.

(3) Confirm that pairing has been successfully completed with the Bluetooth device.

Look at the display for the Bluetooth-enabled device and select “SE-MJ553BT”.
When the LED lamp is flashing in blue slowly about once every 3 seconds, pairing is complete. When it is flashing quickly about once every second, pairing is not complete.
The PIN code for these wireless headphones has been factory set at “0000”.
Input this code if requested by the Bluetooth device.

Connect to the Bluetooth device

Confirm that the power to the wireless headphones is ON before connecting to the Bluetooth device.
Depending on the device, connection between the wireless headphones and Bluetooth device may be effected automatically after pairing.

Disconnecting from the Bluetooth device

Hold down the ( ) button until the flashing LED lamp turns off and the power of the device turns off.

Note

Depending on the device connected, the A2DP profile may need to be designated when playing music, and the HFP or HSP profiles for hands-free communication.
For details regarding operating and setting methods, consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.
When a connection with the device becomes no longer possible, perform paring again.
These wireless headphones can record pairing information for up to 8 Bluetooth devices. If pairing is performed for a ninth device, the information for the first paired device will be overwritten and lost. If you wish to reconnect to that device on a subsequent occasions, it will be necessary to repeat pairing with that device.
Whenever using a device with which pairing has been performed, first turn on the power to the wireless headphones, then perform the connection operation for the paired Bluetooth device.

5. Enjoying music

To use the wireless headphones to listen to music from a Bluetooth device, you must first perform pairing with the Bluetooth device using the A2DP audio profile. For details on how to perform pairing, see P.4.

(1) With power to the wireless headphones’ turned off, hold the () button depressed for about three seconds.
The headphones’ power will turn on and the LED indicator will flash blue.

(2) Turn on the Bluetooth function on the device you wish to connect to.
When pairing is completed, the wireless headphones will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device.
*If automatic connection is not achieved, or the headphones automatically connect to a different Bluetooth device than the one you wish to use, follow the instructions for the desired Bluetooth device regarding manual connection.

Controls when listening to music
If the connected Bluetooth device supports AVRCP, the following operations can be used.

• Press once : Advance to next track or chapter.
━Press and hold : Increase volume.
( - ) button
• Press once : Return to beginning of track or chapter.
— Press and hold : Decrease volume.
( ) button
• Press once : Play/Pause.

*When sound volume is set to maximum or minimum levels a beep sound will be produced from the headphones.
*Sound volume can be adjusted on the matching Bluetooth device.

To use the wireless headphones for vocal communication, pairing must be performed with the desired Bluetooth device using the “hands-free profile” (HFP) or “headset profile” (HSP). For details on how to perform pairing, see P.4. * If the Bluetooth device supports both profiles HFP and HSP, use the profile HFP.

(1) With power to the wireless headphones’ turned off, hold the () button depressed for about three seconds.
The headphones’ power will turn on and the LED indicator will flash blue.
(2) Turn on the Bluetooth function on the device you wish to connect to.
When pairing is completed, the wireless headphones will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device.
*If automatic connection is not achieved, or the headphones automatically connect to a different Bluetooth device than the one you wish to use, follow the instructions for the desired Bluetooth device regarding manual connection.

Vocal communication controls
If the connected Bluetooth device supports AVRCP, the following operations can be used.

Replacing the earphone tip

Installation
Turn the earphone’s skirt inside out as shown in the accompanying illustration.

Press the mounting surface firmly onto the nozzle. Failure to press the tip fully onto the nozzle may cause the tip to come off.

Return the inside-out skirt to its original shape.

Hold the earphone body securely and twist off the earphone tip.

Charging the batteries

The unit’s battery must be recharged before use. The accessory TYPE-C USB cable must be used for recharging the unit’s battery.

Place the left and right earphones (units) into the charging case and check that the red LEDs of the units light red. When the red LEDs light, charging of the units begins and the power turns off automatically.
Close the charging case and then connect one USB plug of the accessory TYPE-C USB cable to the charging case and the other one to a USB port of your PC. When inserting the cable plug, insert it straight while holding the case to prevent it from opening.
When charging begins, the white LEDs on the charging case flash. Charging of the charging case will complete in about 3.5 hours. When the four white LEDs light, the charging case is fully charged. Charging of the units will complete in about 1 hours. When the rechargeable battery’s power become low, a beeping sound can be heard from the unit once every 20 seconds, and the LED indicator flashes red. In this case, recharge the battery before using the unit.

The charging case has a built-in rechargeable battery. If you charge the charging case, you will be able to charge the units if they runs out of power while you are out or otherwise have no access to a power supply. If the charging case is fully charged, you can charge the units about 2 times.

Note:

Battery recharging time and usable battery time may vary depending on ambient temperature and frequency of use.
Do not place metal objects near the headphones’ charging contacts, since dangerous electrical shorts or abnormal heating may result.

Notes on battery charging

This device cannot be used during charging.
Battery performance is influenced by the surrounding temperature. Charge the supplied rechargeable batteries within a temperature range of 5 to 35 degrees celcius.
Do not overcharge batteries. In order to protect batteries, do not repeatedly charge the batteries that are already fully charged.
Batteries become slightly warm when charging. This is not a malfunction.
Please use the accessory TYPE-C USB cable for recharging; using other cables may result in malfunction.
Recharging may not be possible if computer is in power-saving mode.
Always confirm the proper shape and orientation of the micro-USB cable plugs before attempting to connect to the charging case and computer.
Do not use TYPE-C USB cables when tightly twisted or bundled, since fire or electric shock might result.
If you do not plan to use this product for an extended period, avoid storing it in a hot or humid location (such as in a vehicle or in direct sunlight). Storage in such locations may degrade the rechargeable battery and shorten the usable time.
If you do not plan to use this product for an extended period, charge it for approximately one hour before storing it. Long periods of storage with a full battery or without any charge may degrade the rechargeable battery and shorten the usable time.
If the charging case is pened during charging, the cord will be pulled, which may bresult in a broken wire or malfunction. Make sure you disconnect the cord before opening the charging case.

Pairing

Remove the left and right earphones (units) from the charging case.
Press the multifunction button on the left side until the mode becomes pairing mode.
- The state when the LED lamp flashes blue and red alternately is pairing mode. When it lights alternately, release the multifunction button.
Press the multifunction button on the right side until the blue LED lights and then flashes.
- When the blue LED on right earphone flashes three times, the power turns on and the right earphone pairs with the left earphone automatically. (If there is another connection device nearby, paring of the left and right units may not be possible.)
- When in the pairing mode, if pairing is not completed within about 10 minutes, the power will automatically turn off.
Turn on the power to the Bluetooth device you wish to pair with, and begin pairing; search for this unit (wireless headphones) from the paired Bluetooth device.
- Set the Bluetooth device close (within one meter) to the wireless headphones.
- These wireless headphones will appear in the Bluetooth device’s display as «SE-C8TW».
Confirm that pairing has been successfully completed with the Bluetooth device.
- Look at the display for the Bluetooth-enabled device and select “SE-C8TW”.
- When the LED lamp is flashing in blue slowly about once every 3 seconds, pairing is complete.

Connect to the Bluetooth device

Turn on the power of each of the left and right units and perform the connection operation on the other Bluetooth device. When the power of the units turns on, the blue LED flashes three times.
Depending on the device, connection between the wireless headphones and Bluetooth device may be effected automatically after pairing.

Disconnecting from the Bluetooth device

Press the multifunction button on either the right or left unit until the red LED flashes three times to turn off the power. If the operation is performed on one of the units, the power of both the left and right units will turn off.

Note

With some Bluetooth devices, the volume level may be maximized when pairing with these earphones. Pairing should only be done while holding the earphones in your hand. If you have these inserted in your ears during pairing you may be subjected to loud volume causing possible hearing damage. After pairing adjust the volume level down, using the Bluetooth device prior to placing earphones in your ears.
Depending on the device connected, the A2DP profile may need to be designated when playing music, and the HFP or HSP profiles for hands-free communication.
For details regarding operating and setting methods, consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.
When a connection with the device becomes no longer possible, perform paring again.
These wireless headphones can record pairing information for up to 2 Bluetooth devices. If pairing is performed for a 3 device, the information for the first paired device will be overwritten and lost. If you wish to reconnect to that device on a subsequent occasions, it will be necessary to repeat pairing with that device.
Whenever using a device with which pairing has been performed, first turn on the power to the wireless headphones, then perform the connection operation for the paired Bluetooth device.

Enjoying music

To use the wireless headphones to listen to music from a Bluetooth device, you must first perform pairing with the Bluetooth device using the A2DP audio profile. bFor details on how to perform pairing, see P.5.

Remove the left and right earphones (units) from the charging case.
Press the left side and right side multifunction buttons until the blue LEDs light and then flash.
- When the blue LEDs on the left side and right side flash three times, the power turns on. Pairing of the left side and right side is performed automatically when the power turns on.
Turn on the Bluetooth function on the device you wish to connect to.
- When pairing is completed, the wireless headphones will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device.
- If automatic connection is not achieved, or the headphones automatically connect to a different Bluetooth device than the one you wish to use, follow the instructions for the desired Bluetooth device regarding manual connection.

Controls when listening to music
If the connected Bluetooth device supports AVRCP, the following operations can be used.

L side Multi-function button Press once : Play/Pause Press twice : Advance to next track or chapter.
R side Multi-function button Press once : Play/Pause Press twice : Return to beginning of track or chapter.
The music play and pause operations can be performed with either the left side or right side multifunction button.
Adjust the volume with the paired Bluetooth device.
With some Bluetooth devices, the volume level may be maximized when pairing with these earphones. After pairing adjust the volume level down, using the Bluetooth device prior to placing earphones in your ears.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the controls noted above and controls on the Bluetooth device may not be supported.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the music playback settings may need to be configured. Consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, a music playback application may start automatically or the music cannot be paused/played. Consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.

Vocal communication

To use the wireless headphones for vocal communication, pairing must be performed with the desired Bluetooth device using the “hands-free profile” (HFP) or “headset profile” (HSP).
For details on how to perform pairing, see P.5. If the Bluetooth device supports both profiles HFP and HSP, use the profile HFP.

Remove the left and right earphones (units) from the charging case.
Press the left side and right side multifunction buttons until the blue LEDs blight and then flash.
- When the blue LEDs on the left side and right side flash three times, the power turns on.
- Pairing of the left side and right side is performed automatically when the power turns on.
Turn on the Bluetooth function on the device you wish to connect to.
- When pairing is completed, the wireless headphones will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device.
- If automatic connection is not achieved, or the headphones automatically connect to a different Bluetooth device than the one you wish to use, follow the instructions for the desired Bluetooth device regarding manual connection.

Vocal communication controls
If the connected Bluetooth device supports AVRCP, the following operations can be used.

L side Multi-function button Press once when receiving a message : Enables conversation. Press once again to end conversation. Press and hold when receiving a message : Refuse communication. The same controls are supported in the event a call is received while listening to music.
When a call is received, you cannot answer it by operating the right side multifunction button. Perform the operation with the left side multifunction button.
Adjust the volume with the paired Bluetooth device.
With some Bluetooth devices, the volume level may be maximized when pairing with these earphones. After pairing adjust the volume level down, using the Bluetooth device prior to placing earphones in your ears.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the controls noted above and controls on the Bluetooth device may not be supported. * Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the phone settings may need to be configured. Consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.

Using the voice assistant function

You can start the Google app installed in your Android smartphone or other device and then perform operations by voice via the microphones of the earphones. Sound from the paired Bluetooth device can be heard only from the left side while you are using the Google app.

Set the [Assist & voice input] option to the Google app.
- Select [Settings] – [Apps] on the Android smartphone and then select the cogwheel icon at the top right of the displayed screen. Select [Default] – [Assist & voice input] and then set [Assist app] to the Google app. The above procedure is an example. For details, consult the user’s manual for the paired Bluetooth device. To use the assistant, the latest version of the Google app may be required. For details on the Google app, consult the user’s manual for the paired Bluetooth device or the web page of the Google Play Store.
- Depending on the specifications of the paired Bluetooth device, starting of the Google app from the headset may not be supported.
Connect the earphones to the paired Bluetooth device.
- For the connection procedure, see “5. Pairing.”
Start the Google app.
- If you press the left side button three times when the paired Bluetooth device is in the standby state or playing music, a beep tone sounds, the Google app starts, and you can hear the app startup sound. Voice input is possible via the microphones of the earphones. If a certain amount of time elapses after starting the Google app, a beep tone sounds and voice input is canceled.
- L side Multi-function button Press three times: Starts the voice assistant function.
- Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the controls noted above and controls on the Bluetooth device may not be supported.

You can start Siri installed in your iPhone or other device and then perform operations by voice via the microphones of the earphones. Sound from the paired Bluetooth device can be heard only from the left side while you are using Siri.

Enable Siri.
- Select [Settings] – [Siri & Search] on your iPhone and then turn on Siri. The above procedure is an example. For details, consult the user’s manual for the paired Bluetooth device.
- For details on Siri, consult the user’s manual for the paired Bluetooth device.
Connect the earphones to the paired Bluetooth device.
- For the connection procedure, see “5. Pairing.”
Start Siri.
- If you press the left side button three times when the paired Bluetooth device is in the standby state or playing music, Siri starts and you can hear the startup sound. You can check the remaining battery power by gently tapping the charging case to turn on the LEDs.
Subjecting this product to strong forces or impacts may cause damage to the exterior appearance, a loss of performance, or a malfunction or internal damage.
If the LEDs do not light, charge the batteries because there is no remaining battery power. For the charging procedure, see P.4.

Troubleshooting

Charging the batteries

The unit’s battery must be recharged before use.
The accessory micro-USB cable must be used for recharging the unit’s battery.

Connect the appropriate connector on the accessory micro-USB cable to the micro-USB port on the headphones, and the USB plug on the other end to a USB port on a computer.

When recharging begins, the LED indicator on the headphones will light red.
If recharging is performed with the unit’s power turned ON, the power will automatically turn OFF. The unit cannot be used during recharging.
Full recharging requires about 4 hours; when recharging is completed, the LED indicator will turn off.
With a full battery charge, the maximum continuous usable time is about 27 hours (NC OFF).

While the power of the unit is off, hold down the () button until the unit enters pairing mode.
- The pairing mode is confirmed by the LED indicator’s alternately flashing blue and red. Release the ( ) button after confirming that the LED indicator is alternately lighting blue and red.
- When in the pairing mode, if pairing is not completed within about 5 minutes, the power will automatically turn off.
Turn on the power to the Bluetooth device you wish to pair with, and begin pairing; search for this unit (wireless headphones) from the paired Bluetooth device.
- Set the Bluetooth device close (within one meter) to the wireless headphones.
- These wireless headphones will appear in the Bluetooth device’s display as “SE-MS9BN”.
Confirm that pairing has been successfully completed with the Bluetooth
device
- Look at the display for the Bluetooth-enabled device and select “SE-MS9BN”.
- When the LED lamp is flashing in blue slowly about once every 3 seconds, pairing is complete. When it is flashing quickly about once every second, pairing is not complete.
- The PIN code for these wireless headphones has been factory set at “0000”. Input this code if requested by the Bluetooth device.

Connect to the Bluetooth device

Confirm that the power to the wireless headphones is ON before connecting to the Bluetooth device.
Depending on the device, connection between the wireless headphones and Bluetooth device may be effected automatically after pairing.

Disconnecting from the Bluetooth device

Hold down the ( ) button until the flashing LED lamp turns off and the power of the device turns off.

Note

Depending on the device connected, the A2DP profile may need to be designated when playing music, and the HFP or HSP profiles for hands free communication.
For details regarding operating and setting methods, consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.
When a connection with the device becomes no longer possible, perform paring again.
These wireless headphones can record pairing information for up to 8 Bluetooth devices. If pairing is performed for a ninth device, thein formation for the first paired device will be overwritten and lost. If you wish to reconnect to that device on a subsequent occasions, it will be necessary to repeat pairing with that device
Whenever using a device with which pairing has been performed, first turn on the power to the wireless headphones, then perform the connection operation for the paired Bluetooth device.

Using NFC for pairing

When a smart phone or tablet device is equipped with NFC, Bluetooth pairing
(and depairing) can be performed simply by merely swiping the device over the headphones.

Depending on the smart phone or tablet device used, the NFC signal reception may be too weak to perform one-touch connections. The unit may pair with a device other than the desired one if multiple NFC devices are nearby. In that case, follow the manual pairing procedure outlined in step 4.

How to set pairing

Hold the () button depressed while the unit’s power is turned off to
enter the pairing mode.
Swipe the “N-mark” on the device to be connected about 1 cm above the “N-mark” on the left side of the headband.
The device will automatically begin setting the pairing.
- When the LED lamp is flashing in blue slowly about once every 3 seconds, pairing is complete. When it is flashing quickly about once every second, pairing is not complete.

* Only one device can be connected at a time.

Disconnecting
With connecting to this unit, swipe the “N” mark on the device to be connected about 1 cm above the “N-mark” on the left side of the headband.

The connection will be automatically undone. Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the connection cannot be terminated from the NFC device. In that case, perform the procedure of “Disconnecting from the Bluetooth device” in “4. Pairing.

How to use noise cancelling mode and ambient awareness mode

You can select how you hear sounds from three modes: noise cancelling, ambient awareness, and normal modes.

Noise cancelling mode
This function reduces the environmental noise you hear by generating an antiphase sound of external environmental noises (e.g. noise in vehicles and air conditioning sound in a room).

Ambient awareness mode
This mode makes it easier to hear ambient sounds so you can enjoy music while
still being aware of ambient sounds.

Switching modes
Press and hold the ( ) button while the power of the headphones is OFF to turn the power ON. Noise cancelling mode automatically starts. Modes change as shown below each time you press the ( ) button.

Noise cancelling mode
A beep sounds 3 times.
Ambient awareness mode
A beep sounds 2 times.
Normal mode
A beep sounds 1 times.
Noise cancelling mode(Back)

Note

Press and hold the () button to turn the power OFF.
Modes cannot be switched when the power of the headphones is OFF or when you are using the provided headphone cord.
You can also switch modes using the Pioneer Headphone APP.
The mode previously used is not stored. When you turn ON the power, noise cancelling mode will automatically be chosen.

You may not feel the noise cancelling effect or noise may feel greater depending on the type of noise or when you are in a quiet place.
The noise cancelling effect may become less significant or a bleep sound may be generated (acoustic feedback) depending on how you wear the headphones. In this case, please change the headphones’ position.
Noise cancelling mode is the most effective against noises of low frequency such as the noise of vehicles and air-conditioning. Not all sounds are eliminated by using this mode.
When used in a car, bus, or other vehicles, noise may be generated depending on the road conditions.
Noise may be generated due to the influence of a cellular phone. In this case, distance the headphones from the cellular phone.
Do not cover the mode-responsive microphone of the headphones with your hand or any article. It may reduce the effect of both noise cancelling mode and ambient awareness mode. It may also cause a bleep sound (acoustic feedback). In this case, remove your hand or article from the microphone.

Even when ambient awareness mode is used, you may not be able to hear ambient sounds depending on the ambient circumstances and type or volume of the sound being played. Do not use the headphones in dangerous places where you need to hear ambient sounds (e.g. roads that cars and bicycles go by).

Enjoying music

To use the wireless headphones to listen to music from a Bluetooth device, you
must first perform pairing with the Bluetooth device using the A2DP audio profile. For details on how to perform pairing, see P.4.

With power to the wireless headphones’ turned off, hold the () button
depressed for about three seconds. The headphones’ power will turn on and the LED indicator will flash blue.
Turn on the Bluetooth function on the device you wish to connect to.When pairing is completed, the wireless headphones will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device.

If automatic connection is not achieved, or the headphones automatically connect to a different Bluetooth device than the one you wish to use, follow the instructions for the desired Bluetooth device regarding manual connection.

Controls when listening to music
If the connected Bluetooth device supports AVRCP, the following operations can be used.

( + ) button
Press once : Advance to next track or chapter.
Press and hold : Increase volume.
( – ) button
Press once : Return to beginning of track or chapter.
Press and hold : Decrease volume.
Play / Pause button
Press once : Play/Pause
When sound volume is set to maximum or minimum levels a beep sound will be produced from the headphones.
Sound volume can be adjusted on the matching Bluetooth device.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the controls noted above and controls on the Bluetooth device may not be supported.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, the music playback settings may need to be configured. Consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.
Depending on the specifications of the connected Bluetooth device, a music playback application may start automatically or the music cannot be paused/played. Consult the user’s manual for the Bluetooth device.

Using the headphones cord

The furnished headphones cord can be used to listen to playback.

Attach straight plug into unit’s body

Note

Connect the straight plug to the headphones’ jack, and connect the L-type plug to the playback device.
Insert the plug fully and securely.Failure to insert the plug sufficiently may result in reduced audio output from the headphones, or other malfunctions.
The Bluetooth function cannot be used while the headphone cord is in use.
If you begin using the headphone cord when power is already turned on,power to the unit will be automatically disconnected.

Vocal communication

With power to the wireless headphones’ turned off, hold the () button depressed for about three seconds.
The headphones’ power will turn on and the LED indicator will flash blue.
Turn on the Bluetooth function on the device you wish to connect to.
When pairing is completed, the wireless headphones will automatically connect to the Bluetooth device.

Press once when receiving a message : Enables conversation.
Press once again to end conversation.
Press and hold when receiving a message : Refuse communication.
Press twice : Performs redialing.

Using the voice assist function

You can search using the microphone of the headphones by running the Google Assistant installed on a smartphone or other device.

Compatible smartphones
AndroidTM 5.0 or later (The GoogleTM app needs to be updated to the most current version.) iOS (The Google Assistant app needs to be installed.)

When you pair the device with the headphones, a pop-up for connecting with the Google Assistant starts. Make the connection following the guidance.

When the Google Assistant is not available due to no connection to any network or for other reasons, an audio guidance “The Google Assistant is not connected” is played.
The Google Assistant function is not available in some countries and areas as well as in some languages.

You can start the Google app installed in your Android smartphone or other device and then perform operations by voice via the microphones of the earphones.

Set the [Assist & voice input] option to the Google app.
- Select [Settings] – [Apps] on the Android smartphone and then select the cogwheel icon at the top right of the displayed screen. Select [Default] – [Assist & voice input] and then set [Assist app] to the Google app. The above procedure is an example. For details, consult the user’s manual for the paired Bluetooth device.
  *To use the assistant, the latest version of the Google app may be required. For details on the Google app, consult the user’s manual for the paired Bluetooth device or the web page of the Google Play Store.
  *Depending on the specifications of the paired Bluetooth device, starting of the Google app from the headset may not be supported.
Connect the earphones to the paired Bluetooth device.

Start the Google app.
- If you press and hold the Play / Pause button when the paired Bluetooth device is in the standby state or playing music, a beep tone sounds, the Google app starts, and you can hear the app startup sound. Voice input is possible via the microphones of the earphones. If a certain amount of time elapses after starting the Google app, a beep tone sounds and voice input is canceled.

Enable Siri.

Connect the earphones to the paired Bluetooth device.

Start Siri.

Troubleshooting
