Introduction

The Midland WR120B is a weather alert radio that provides early warning against the changing and harsh weather condition. It comes with the ability to be programmed to up to 25 locations. The weather radio has the ability to alert over 80 weather and emergency alerts. It can be customized to over 80+ emergency alerts. It features a built-in alarm clock along with emergency power back up. Another prominent feature of the radio is that it has trilingual display including English, Spanish and French.

Quick Start Instructions

1. Set the ON/OFF switch located on the right side of the radio to the ON position.
2. Pull out the antenna and extend to its full length.
3. Insert 3 AA batteries (not included).
4. Plug the AC Adapter into the POWER jack on the back of the radio and the other end into a standard outlet.
5. Follow the prompts on the display screen using up and down to move through the options and SELECT to choose the desired option.

• The radio will first display WELCOME, and then SET LANGUAGE
• To SET LANGUAGE press the SELECT button:
  • Choose your language by pressing up or down, then SELECT.
• To SET LOCATION press the SELECT button:
  • Press up or down until SINGLE is displayed, then press SELECT.

Set Time

1. Press MENU to open menu options.
2. Press up to scroll through menu to SET TIME.
3. Press SELECT (hour option will begin flashing).
4. Press up until current hour is displayed.

(Note: AM/PM changes as you scroll through the hours.)

5. Press ► to save current hour and advance to minute settings.
6. Program both minute digits the same way.
7. Press SELECT to store the current time.
8. Press MENU to exit menu mode.

Set Alarm

1. Press MENU to open menu options.
2. Press up to scroll through menu to SET ALARM, then press SELECT.
3. Press up to display ON. Press SELECT.
4. Press up until the hour you want is displayed.

5. Press ►to save alarm hour and advance to alarm minutes. Program both minute digits the same way.

To temporarily silence the sleep alarm, press the WEATHER/ SNOOZE button. This will advance the alarm time by 8 minutes. To silence the alarm for the remainder of the day, press the MENU button.

Programming the radio for your area

Your WR-120 All Hazards Weather Alert Radio comes preprogrammed

to receive weather and hazard alert transmissions for all S.A.M.E. codes within range of the transmitter of the selected channel. Follow these simple instructions to program your radio to receive alerts just for your county.

“Single” County (S.A.M.E.) Code

1. Press MENU to open menu options.
2. Press _. to scroll through menu to SET LOCATION, then press SELECT.
3. Press _. to SINGLE then press SELECT.
4. 01 EMPTY will be displayed. Press SELECT.
5. Press • or T to select the desired country then press SELECT.
6. Press • or T to select the desired state/province then press SELECT.
7. Press • or T to select the desired location then press SELECT.
8. Press MENU to exit menu mode.

“Multiple” County Code:
For multiple counties, follow the above instructions. At step 3, press • until MULTIPLE is displayed. The “NEARBY” counties will come up automatically to make selection easy. You can program up to 25 different location codes.

Note: To manually enter a FIPS code, press ► while # # LOCATION is displayed. However, selecting a NEARBY will be unavailable. NEARBY locations are based on weather transmitter coverage area, not a geographical location.

Set Alert Type (Display, Voice or Tone)

1. Press MENU to open menu options.
2. Press up to scroll through menu to ALERT TYPE, then press SELECT.
3. Press up to choose VOICE, TONE or DISPLAY then press SELECT.

Reviewing Recent Alerts
The WR-120 All Hazards Weather Alert Radio can store up to 10 different Weather/Hazard alerts. You can review all alerts still in effect by pressing • to scroll through the active alert memory on your weather radio. A double beep indicates the end of the list. “NO MESSAGE” will be displayed if no alerts are active.

Alert Test

1. Press MENU to open menu options.
2. Press up to scroll through menu to ALERT TEST.
3. Press SELECT to sound the alert siren.
4. Press MENU or SNOOZE to silence the siren then press MENU exit menu mode.

Note: Ensure ON/OFF switch is in the ON position.

Set Channel/Volume

1. Press MENU to open menu options.
2. Press up to scroll through menu to SET CHANNEL then press SELECT.
3. *Tune the channel to the desired broadcast by using up or down

Reception

Typical broadcasts are within reception distance of 25-40 miles of the weather broadcast station. Location, conditions of weather and terrain effect the reception. If you find reception is not good in your area, try different locations in your home or office to find a spot of improved reception.

NOTE: Placement near a window usually improves reception.

If a weather broadcast is not heard on any of the 7 channels, contact your local weather office and verify that the closest station is on air and the channel frequencies you are using are correct.

NOTE: If you live in a metal structure or in a “fringe” area, you may need an external antenna to improve reception.

Test Signals Broadcast
All Weather Service stations periodically transmit test signals. You can find out when your local station broadcasts test signals by calling the NOAA National Weather Service Forecast Office (listed under “Weather” in the Federal Government section of the telephone book).

In Canada these tests are performed every Wednesday at 12:00 noon.

During a test, the yellow advisory LED will light up and the “Weekly Test” or “Monthly Test” message will be visible on the display. While disabled in the menu, the radio will not sound an audible alert tone to avoid giving the impression of an actual alarm. The visual response to the test is confirmation that your radio is working properly.

If an alert is not received within 10 days, CHECK RECEPTION will be displayed along with an audible beep repeating every 10 minutes. This notification is automatically removed once an alert is received. To manually clear it, you must reset the power by removing the batteries and power adapter for 10 seconds. After the ten seconds have passed, re-insert batteries and plug back in. Even without power for this short amount of time, your S.A.M.E. codes will remain programmed as before. You will, however, need to re-set the time and any alarms you had previously programmed into the radio.

Batteries provide approximately 5 hours of emergency power or 75 hours of standby power for the radio in case of a power outage.

To reset the radio to the factory defaults, press and hold the WEATHER/ SNOOZE button while powering on the unit.

One Year Limited Warranty:

MIDLAND Radio Corporation will repair or replace, at its option without charge, your WR-120 All Hazards Alert Weather Radio which fails due to a defect in material or workmanship within ONE YEAR following the initial consumer purchase. This warranty does not include any antennas, which may be a part of (or included with) the product under warranty, or the cost of labor for removal or re-installation of the product in a vehicle or other mounting. Performance of any obligation under this warranty may be obtained by returning the product under warranty, freight prepaid, along with a copy of the original sales receipt to Midland Radio Corporation at the address provided below. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state.

NOTE: The above warranty applies only to merchandise purchased in the United States of America or any of the territories or possessions thereof, or from a U.S. Military exchange. For warranty coverage on merchandise purchased elsewhere ask your dealer.

Why is my Midland weather radio beeping?

What kind of batteries does an Acurite weather station take?

Can you use rechargeable batteries in AcuRite weather station?

Rechargeable batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the voltage instability of these types of batteries. Mixing different battery types (brands, old/new, etc.) is not recommended.

Why is my atomic clock not updating?

LCD DISPLAY

Features of the PPG1000 Waterproof Case

1. With the lid closed and properly sealed, the PPG1000 in its case has been independently certified by a 3rd party lab as Waterproof to IP67
   standards, according to test procedures outlined in IEC 60529; Although the PPG1000 has been designed to be waterproof while the case is
   sealed, Midland does not recommend deliberately exposing the PPG1000 to moisture even when closed. In order to protect your PPG1000, we
   recommend the following steps be observed: Ensure that the gasket in the lid of the case, and where the lid meets
   the lower portion of the case are both free from obstruction and undamaged.
2. Close the lid of the PPG1000 case, and secure both of the toggle latches on the front of the case.
3.  If the PPG1000 comes into contact with liquid while it is sealed, dry the outside of the case thoroughly, taking care to wick away any moisture where the lid meets the lower portion of the case; after opening the case, continue to dry off any portion of the lid, gasket, and lower chassis that may be accidentally exposed to moisture trapped outside of the gasket.
   Note: Do not turn the valve on the front of the PPG1000 case, as this might damage the valve voiding the waterproof characteristics of the valve.

Charging your PPG1000

The PPG1000 can be charged by an AC adaptor (Included), 12V DC Car Charger, or by a solar charge.

AC Charging

1. Plug the 12V barrel plug into the 12V~30V charge socket
2. Plug the AC Adaptor into an AC outlet.
   NOTE: It takes approximatley 17 hours to fully charge your PPG1000 with the AC Adaptor. If you are using the Quick Charge Adaptor (not included, sold seperatly) to charge your PPG1000, it takes approximatley 7 hours to fully charge the PPG1000.

12V DC Car Charging

1. Plug the 12V barrel plug into the DC Input 12V~30V socket.
2. Plug the the other end of the DC Car Charging Cable into the vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket.
   NOTE: It is not recommended to charge the PPG1000 through the vehicle, it will take too much time to fully charge the PPG1000. The vehicle can be used as a top off charge for the PPG1000.

Charging a Device through the DC Outputs

1. Press and release the power button to turn on the power station. This will activate the DC outputs and ports.
2. To turn off the DC Outputs press and release the power button.

Charging a Device through the GFCI AC Output

1. Press and release the AC button on the power station. This will activate the AC Outputs
2.  To turn off the GFCI AC Outputs, press and release the power button.

LED Light

1. Press and release the power button to turn on the power station.
2. Press and release the LED button to turn on the LED light.
3. To turn off the LED light, press and release the LED button.

Troubleshooting

1. If the GFCI outlet is tripped, it can be reset normally just like the ones in your home. If the GFCI reset button is pressed accidentally when the GFCI does not need to be reset, it is possible that the PPG1000 will falsely detect this as an error; since the GFCI outlet has not been tripped, you can reset this error message by simply powering off the PPG1000 for a few seconds, and restarting it. In general, the PPG1000 will indicate an error by identifying the impacted ports (AC, DC, USB 5V, or USB 20V), and the word “ERROR”. If the PPG1000 indicates an error, simply turn the PPG1000 off for a few seconds; if when you turn the PPG1000 back on the error persists, unplug whatever device is responsible, as it may be incompatible or faulty

PPG1000 Helpful Tips and Tricks

• The PPG1000 case is a hermetically sealed waterproof case. You may find it difficult to open the case in the winter time when you charge the power station in your home then take it out in the cold temperature.
• When the PPG1000 battery level is less than 5%, the power station will shut off to protect the battery.
• When not in use, it is best to charge your PPG1000 every 3 months to maintain the quality of the battery
•  It is best to use the USB outputs when charging your smartphone or tablet.

• Do NOT use your PPG1000 if it is damaged, or has been modified or altered in any way
• Do NOT expose your PPG1000 to water or any fluids while the case is open. Although the PPG1000 is resistant to water when the case is closed and locked, it is not intended to be submerged.
• Do NOT store or place your PPG1000 near fire, extreme heat, or where there are combustable fumes or gases.
• Your PPG1000 is not a toy, and is not intended for use by children without adult supervision; in this regard, treat it as you would an outlet in your home.
• Do NOT clean the operation panel with water or solvents. Before cleaning turn off the unit, unplug the AC adaptor, and then wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth.
• Store your PPG1000 in an enviornment between -10 °C (14 °F) and 55 °C (131 °F). Charge fully once every 3 months

• Do NOT disassemble, modify in any way, or attempt to service your PPG1000 yourself, as this may result in damage to the unit or injury to yourself or others, and will void your warranty.
• Do NOT insert foreign objects into the DC/AC power sockets, ventilation slots, or any other opening in your PPG1000; use only the correct connector for each power socket on your PPG1000.
• Do NOT strike or drop your PPG1000
• Do NOT charge or operate your PPG1000 in temperatures exceeding the operating temperatures described in this manual. Unplug your PPG1000 AC adaptor during lightning storms or when not in use.
• Follow all power and current ratings in this manual; do NOT overload the AC or DC outputs.

Failure to operate, store, and care for your PPG1000 according to these guidelines may damage the unit or diminish performance. Abuse of the unit may lead to property damage, injury, or death.

Subject to the exclusions set forth below, Midland Radio Corporation will repair or replace, at its option without charge, any Midland PPG1000 which fails due to a defect in material nor workmanship within One Year following the initial consumer purchase. This warranty does not apply to water damage, battery leak, abuse or misuse of unauthorized accessories, unauthorized service or modification or altered products. Accessories have a 90 day warranty from date of purchase including the power cable, that is included with the unit.
