Introduction

Metra has been around for about 70 years and delivers innovative products to fit the needs of its users which are simple and easy to use. The Metra 70-1761 radio wiring harness are vehicle specific wiring harness adapter. They are used to wire the car stereo and the car’s electrical system. The wire harness can work with 1987 Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Subaru and Geo vehicles. It can plug in to car harness at radio and power 4 speakers. They are easy to use.

IMPORTANT

STEP 1 — CONNECT WIRES

1. Connect wires below to the matching function of each wire on your receiver (refer to instructions supplied with receiver).
2. IMPORTANT: The wire colors of your new receiver may, or may not, match the wire colors of the adaptor. Match adaptor and receiver wires by function, disregarding color.
3. Make final wiring connections following instructions on the next page.

Note:  If the adaptor harness does not match the vehicle radio harness, the matching plug may be found below the factory radio at the amplifier.  The amp must be bypassed by unplugging the matching plug from the factory amp and plugging it into the adaptor harness.

STEP 2 — CRIMP CONNECTIONS

Tools & Parts Required

1. Strip wires back 1/2”.
   
2. Twist wires together and insert in crimp cap.
   
3. Squeeze middle of cap for tight connection.
   
4. Complete crimp connections for all necessary wires.
5. Be sure to wrap any wires from the Wiring Adaptor that are not necessary (wires with no match from the new receiver) with electrical tape

STEP 3 – APPLICATION

When ready to install the receiver, plug the Wiring Adaptor from the new receiver or receiver assembly into the factory radio harness(es) in the vehicle dash.

• What gauge wire is this? I want to use the correct crimp cap size.
  The wires are 16awg.
• What is the smaller 4 wire harness for?
  The smaller 4 wire harness is for the L & R rear speaker connections.
• Does it include the dimmer wire?
  Yes, the orange wire is listed as dimmer wire.
• Does the wiring harness come with this stereo?
  No, these are just the wiring harness.
• Does it fit a 2005 Toyota Tundra with the JBL stereo?
  No, it doesn’t fit the 2005 Toyota Tundra.
• Does this come with door lock bypass?
  No, it doesn’t come with the door lock bypass.
• Will it work with 2004 Camry with JBL without navigation? For both front and rear speakers?
  No, it won’t work with a 2004 Toyota Camry.
• Does this harness include the wires for antennae? Or is that a separate purchase?
  The antenna is a separate cable that is already inside your vehicle. You don’t have to purchase a separate one.
• Will this work on a 08 tundra?
  Yes, it works with 2008 Tundra.
• Do the steering volume controls still work with this?
  No, the steering controls will not work with this.
