Travel Guide User: BEFORE traveling with this product, read this manual and save it for future reference. For more information regarding Invacare products, parts, and services, please visitwww.invacare.com Traveling with the XPO2 To ensure safe travel with the XPO2, these instructions must be followed. For all warnings and cautions pertaining to the use of the XPO2, please refer to the owner’s manual. No smoking or open flame is permitted within 10 feet (3 m) of where you are sitting. A spontaneous and violent ignition may occur if oil, grease, greasy substances, or petroleum-based products come in contact with oxygen under pressure. These substances MUST be kept away from the XPO2 portable concentrator, tubing and connections, and all other oxygen equipment. DO NOT use any lubricants unless recommended by Invacare. Traveling by Air Before Traveling Check www.invacare.com for a complete list of airlines that have approved the use of the XPO2 onboard. Contact your travel carrier and/or tour guide about your travel plans and provide information about your intent to use a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) during your travels. The carrier will let you know if you will be permitted to use your XPO2 during your travel and if there are any restrictions for use. NOTE: If you are not permitted to use your XPO2 on the airline of choice and still want to take it with you: • Carry it and any supplemental batteries on board with you. • Ensure the unit is turned off. • Stow it properly for the flight. • DO NOT place the XPO2 or any supplemental battery modules in your checked baggage. Contact the airline to see if they have seats with a power outlet that you can use to power the XPO2 during the flight. If a power outlet is not available, be sure to bring enough supplemental batteries to last 150% of the flight time. There may be unexpected delays beyond scheduled flight times. Carry your power adapters with you so you can recharge batteries before and after the flight. Ensure you have a licensed physician’s signed statement on a standard form (p/n 1154266), the doctor’s letterhead, or an airline‐approved form that contains the following information: • Your need for oxygen during taxi, takeoff, flight times, landing, or the entire time you are traveling. • The flowrate(s) that you will use during your trip. • Your understanding, or that of your travel companion, of all the cautions, warnings, and alarms of the XPO2 and what to do if there is an alarm situation with the device. • Your personal information such as name, date of birth, and the model name or number of the portable concentrator. You MUST have this form with you at all times during your travel. Charge the internal battery of the XPO2 and any supplemental batteries fully before you depart, thus extending the operating time of the XPO2 during travel. Refer to Recharging the Battery in the owner’s manual. Ensure the unit is free of all grease, oil, or other petroleum products and that the unit is in good working order, is free of damage, and the air filter is clean. Refer to Maintenance in the owner’s manual. Contact your oxygen supplier to make arrangements if you need to have backup oxygen at your destination. Arriving at the Airport Allow the security agent to inspect your XPO2, even if you are using it when going through the security checkpoint. They are required to allow you to travel through the checkpoint with your POC, but they MUST inspect it for security reasons. Use your AC power adapter while you are at the airport, if possible. This will keep the batteries at full charge and give you the most battery-powered operating time on the aircraft. Boarding the Plane You are not permitted to sit in an exit row if you plan to use your XPO2 at any time during the flight. If you plan on using the XPO2 the entire time you are on the plane, verify that your XPO2 does not block access to an emergency exit or aisle way. If it does, request a seat change. Show the pilot or flight crew your signed physician’s statement regarding your use of the XPO2, if asked. In order for the flight crew to ensure the safety of you and all of the other passengers on the flight, allow them to inspect the XPO2 to confirm that it is FAA approved for use on the flight. If you are not planning to use your XPO2 during taxi, takeoff, or landing, you MUST store it in an approved storage area so it does not block the row or aisle access. NOTE: Contact the flight crew about the location of approved storage areas. On the Plane You MUST store the supplemental battery either securely connected to the XPO2 or in your carry‐on baggage. The supplemental battery MUST be protected from damage and shorting out the external power connector. You may use your XPO2 when moving about the cabin, ONLY after the pilot turns off the “Fasten Seat Belt” sign. Turn off the unit if the XPO2 alarms during the flight, unless the alarm resets itself. If the alarm does not reset, the XPO2 MUST be turned off and stored in an approved storage area. If an AC power outlet is available on the flight, perform the following: A. Connect the power adapter to the XPO2. B. Plug in the power adapter into the airline power outlet. C. Turn the unit on. NOTE: If you have any trouble making the connections to the plane’s power outlet, contact the flight crew for assistance. After the Flight Ensure you have enough power to run your XPO2 while leaving the airport. Recharge the batteries, if necessary. Refer to The battery is in the owner’s manual. Contact your medical gas supplier to obtain your backup oxygen supply, if necessary. Traveling by Boat Contact the cruise line and inform them you are traveling with a POC. There should be no restrictions on your use of the XPO2 during your travel but it is wise to check with them ahead of time. Power should be available for use of your AC power adapter during your travels but check first. Traveling by Train Contact the train authorities at least twelve hours ahead of arrival that you are going to use your POC. There should be no restrictions on your use of the XPO2, but power on the train may not be available for your use during travel times. Ensure there is enough battery life for your trip before you leave. Traveling by Bus Contact the bus line about using a POC. There should be no restrictions on your use of the XPO2 during your trip, but power may not be available for your use during travel times. Ensure there is enough battery life for your trip before you leave.
