• The “SAFETY PRECAUTIONS” indicated in this manual contain important information pertaining to your safety. Be sure to observe them.
• Request the user to keep this manual on hand for future use, such as for relocating or repairing the unit.

WARNING

This mark indicates procedures which, if improperly performed, might lead to the death or serious injury of the user.
Perform electrical work by an authorized service personnel in accordance with this manual and the electrical wiring regulations or implementation regulations of the country. Also do not install this product by yourself.
Improper electric work will cause electric shock or a fire.

Perform installation work in accordance with this manual. Request an authorized service personnel to perform installation work. Do not install this product by yourself. Improper installation will cause injury, electric shock, fire, etc.
In the event of a malfunction (burning smell, etc.), immediately stop operation, turn off the electrical breaker, and consult authorized service personnel.
Do not install the unit in the following areas:

• Do not install the unit near a source of heat, steam or flammable gas.
• Area fi lled with mineral oil or containing a large amount of splashed oil or steam, such as a kitchen. It will deteriorate plastic parts, causing the parts to fail or the unit to leak water.
• Area that generates substances that adversely affect the equipment, such as sulfuric gas, chlorine gas, acid or alkali. It will cause the copper pipes and brazed joints to corrode, which can cause refrigerant leakage.
• Area containing equipment that generates electromagnetic interference. It will cause the control system to malfunction, preventing the unit from operating normally.
• Area that can cause combustible gas to leak, contains suspended carbon fibers or flammable dust, or volatile inflammables such as paint thinner or gasoline. If gas leaks and settles around the unit, it can cause a fi re.
• Install the unit in a well-ventilated place avoiding rains and direct sunlight.

Do not operate this product when your hands are wet. Touching the unit with wet hands will cause an electric shock.
If children may approach the unit, take preventive measures so that they cannot reach the unit.

CAUTION

This mark indicates procedures which, if improperly performed, might possibly result in personal harm to the user or damage to property.

• Pay abundant care when transporting this product because it is a precision device. Improper transportation will cause trouble.
• Do not touch the switches with sharp objects. Doing so will cause injury, trouble, or electric shock.
• Do not expose this product directly to water. Doing so will cause trouble, electric shock, or heating.
• Do not set vessels containing a liquid on this product. Doing so will cause heating, fi re, or electric shock.
• Dispose of the packing materials safely. Tear and dispose of the plastic packing bags so that children cannot play with them. There is the danger of suffocation if children play with the original plastic bags.

NOTES:
This product is manufactured to metric units and tolerances.
United States customary units are provided for reference only. In cases where exact dimensions and tolerances are required, always refer to metric units.

The following installation parts are supplied. Use them as required.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENT

Use shielded cable in accordance with local rules for remote controller cable.

SELECTING AN INSTALLATION LOCATION

Dimensions

This product is comprised of a body and cover.

Set the bottom side to a flat place.

Specifications

WIRING

WARNING:

Before starting installation work, turn off the power of this product and the connection destination. Do not turn on the power again until installation is completed. Otherwise, it will cause electric shock or fi re.

Use the accessories or specified connection cable. Do not modify power supply cable and connection cables other than those specified, do not use extension cables, and do not use independent branch wiring. It may cause electric shock or fi re.

Install the connection cables securely to the terminal block. Confirm that external force of the cable is not applied to the terminal block. Use the specified cables. If intermediate connection or insertion fi xing are imperfect, it will cause electric shock, fire, etc.

When connecting the connection cable, route the cables so that the cover of this product is securely fixed. If the cover is imperfectly fixed, it may cause fi re or overheating of the terminals.

Perform earth (ground) work positively. Do not connect the earth (ground) cable to a telephone cable, water pipe, or conductor rod.
Perform all wiring works so that the user does not touch the wiring. Otherwise it will cause injury or electric shock.
If any cable is damaged, do not repair or modify it yourself. Improper work will cause electric shock or fire.

CAUTION:

Do not bind the remote controller cable and the external input cable together with or parallel to the power supply cable of the indoor and outdoor units. It may cause erroneous operation.

When performing wiring work, be careful not to damage the cable or injure yourself. Also, connect the connectors securely. Loose connectors will cause trouble, heating, fi re, or electric shock.

Install the indoor unit, outdoor unit, power supply cable, transmission cable and remote control cable at least 40 in (1 m) away from a television or radio.

The purpose of this is to prevent TV reception interference or radio noise. (Even if they are installed more than 40 in (1 m) apart, you could still receive noise under some signal conditions.)

Perform wiring so that water does not enter this product along the external wiring. Always install a trap to the wiring or take other countermeasures.
Otherwise it will cause trouble or electric shock or fire.

Confirm the name of each unit and name of each terminal block of the unit and connect the wiring in accordance with the directions given in the manual so that there is no incorrect wiring. Incorrect wiring will damage the electric parts and cause smoke and fire.

When installing the connection cables near a source of electromagnetic waves, use shielded cable.

Otherwise, a breakdown or malfunction could result.
The terminal screws and earth (ground) screws have different shapes. Be sure to install the screws in the correct locations. If the screws are installed in the wrong locations, the circuit board could be damaged.

Wiring method

The connection example of thermostat convertor and thermostat controller is shown below.
The connection method is different depending on the type of thermostat controller. Connect them according to the following Cases.
For remote controller cable, 2 kinds of type, which are 2-wire type and 3-wire type are available depending on the device to be connected.

1. All wiring shown should be performed with 18 AWG thermostat wire.
2. Terminals to thermostat controller on this product support 20-30VAC.
3. High/medium/low fan signals are optional, and may not be available on all thermostat models.
4. W2 and Y2 signals are optional, and may be omitted for single-stage thermostats. In addition, if Y2 and W2 are used, turn ON the DIP switches SET3-1.

Case 1: Two-stage Cooling and Heating
(Example: Remote controller for 3-wire type)

Install the transformer, as necessary, per building code and manufacturer’s installation instructions. Maximum Power: 5.0VA

Case 2: Single-stage Cooling and Heating
(Example: Remote controller for 2-wire type)

Case 3: Single-stage Cooling and Heating with Dedicated Fan
Speed Relays (Example: Remote controller for 2-wire type)

The names of terminal connected to thermostat have the following meanings.

NOTES:

• Up to 16 indoor units may be controlled with a single thermostat controller, Multiple indoor units connected to convertor operate by the same operating setting.
• Two or more types of VRF1 system, VRF2 system, single model or multi systems cannot be mixed together.

WARNING:

Tighten the terminal screws to the specified torques, otherwise, abnormal overheating may be occurred and possibly cause heavy damage inside the unit.

CAUTION:

To peel the sheath from the cables, use a dedicated tool that will not damage the conductor of the cable.
When installing a screw on the terminal block, do not cut the cable by overtightening the screw. On the other hand, a loosen screw can cause faulty contact, which will lead to a communication failure.

INSTALLING THE THERMOSTAT CONVERTOR

WARNING:

• Always use the accessories and specified installation work parts. Check the state of the installation parts. Not using the specified parts will cause units to fall off, electric shock, fi re, etc.
• Install at a place that can withstand the weight of the unit and install positively so that the unit will not topple or fall.
• When installing this product, make sure that there are no children nearby.
  Otherwise, injury or electric shock could result.

CAUTION:

• Do not set the DIP switch of this product except as specified in this installation manual or the instruction manual supplied with the air conditioner. Setting the switches other than specified will cause an accident or trouble.
• Use an insulated screwdriver to set the DIP switches.
• Before opening the cover of this product, completely discharge static electricity charged on your body. Otherwise, failure or malfunction could result.
• Do not touch the circuit board and circuit board parts directly with your hands. Otherwise, injury or electric shock could result.
• Tightening the mounting screws too tight will damage the body of this product.
• When using the indoor unit without Fan mode, do not connect G (Fan), G1, G2, and G3 signals. Otherwise air conditioner might operate incorrectly.
• If the air conditioner system is a heat pump type, please select “ Priority on Administrative Indoor Unit” in the setting of priority mode by PUSH SWITCH of outdoor unit (refer to installation manual of outdoor unit). Furthermore, please
  complete “Administrative Indoor Unit Setting” for indoor unit which is connected to this Thermostat Convertor by using the wired remote controller (refer to installation manual of remote controller.)

NOTES:

When this product is used, do not use the remote controller because indoor unit is controlled centrally by thermostat controller.

However, the remote controller connecting is temporarily required for the initial setting. During the initial setting by remote controller do not connect Thermostat Convertor to indoor unit.
After when all initial setting is completed, disconnect the wired remote controller. Then connect Thermostat Converter to indoor unit at first time.

Connecting the cables

1. For thermostat cable, use the single wire of 18AWG thermostat wire.
2. Power-supply voltage of thermostat (TC, TR) is 20 to 30VAC.
3. Insert the cable to the connected terminal and fi x with screw using screw driver.
4. For remote controller cable, 2 kinds of 2 kinds of type, which are 2-wire type and 3-wire type are available depending on the device to be connected.
5. The number of connected thermostat cable is different the type of thermostat controller.
6. For details of connection method, refer to Case 1 to Case 3 of “5. Wiring”.

CONNECTION OF REMOTE CONTROLLER CABLE

CAUTION:

When connecting the remote controller cable to the indoor unit, do not connect it to the outdoor unit or the power terminal block. It may cause a failure.

There are 2 methods to connect the remote controller cable to the indoor unit. One is the connection using connecting cable contained by indoor unit, and the other is the connection the remote controller cable is connected to the exclusive terminal block of the indoor unit.
Exclusive terminal block for remote controller connection method is different depending on each model. Modify the remote controller cable as per below description and connect it. (For the details, refer to the installation manual of the indoor unit to be used.)

When connecting to the connector

Case 1: For non-polar 2-wire
Use a tool to cut off the terminal on the end of the remote controller cable, and then remove the insulation from the cut end of the cable as shown in Fig. 1. Connect the remote controller cable and connecting cable as shown in Fig. 2. Be sure to insulate between the cables.

Insert it to the connector. Set to “2WIRE” the DIP switch (SW1) on the PC board of the indoor unit.

Case 2: For polar 3-wire
Modify the cable as per below methods.
Use a tool to cut off the terminal on the end of the remote controller cable, and then remove the insulation from the cut end of the cable as shown in Fig. 1.
Connect the remote controller cable and connecting cable as shown in Fig. 2.
Be sure to insulate between the cables.

When the board has the 2WIRE/3WIRE DIP switch on it, set it to 3WIRE.
For how to set, see “Case 1: For non-polar 2-wire”.

When connecting to the exclusive terminal block

Connect the end of remote controller cable directly to the exclusive terminal block.
If there is the 2WIRE/3WIRE switch on the PC board of the indoor unit, set it to match the connection method of the connected remote controller cable.

CIRCUIT BOARD SETTING

Remove the cover of main unit by the following procedure to perform the initial setting.

Tightening torque

When the cover is removed, the circuit board appears.
The circuit board has DIP switches and LEDs as shown below.

Perform the initial setting using 3 DIP switches (SET 1 to 3) on the circuit board.

These are the limit temperature for cooling and heating.
Energy saving performance is improved in the order from Cooling Pat- tern 1 to 2 and Heating Pattern 1 to 4.

Delay off setting

NOTES:

These are the limit temperature for cooling and heating.
Energy saving performance is improved in the order from Cooling Pattern 1 to 2 and Heating Pattern 1 to 4.

Delay OFF:
Delay OFF is the function to operate continuously after reaching to the
setting temperature of thermostat.
This function may make the air conditioning effi cient.
Set the Delay OFF time by SW SET 2-3 and SW SET 2-4.

Fan setting (G signal)

TURNING ON THE POWER

1. Check this product wiring and switch settings on the circuit board.
2. Check the wiring and switch settings for the VRF system or multi system or single model. For the wiring and switch settings method, refer to the installation instruction sheet of each unit.
3. Turn on the power for the VRF system etc.
4. Power will be supplied from the indoor unit to this product.

• This product will be initialized and the power turned on. LED1 (green) and LED2 (orange) will fl ashing.
• After initial setting is completed, operation will be restarted automatically. LED1 (green) lights.
• This product does not operate during initialization.
• An error code will appear on LED in the event of a malfunction.

Incorrect operation due to failure to follow the instructions may cause harm or damage, the seriousness of which is classifi ed as follows:

WARNING

• This product contains no user-serviceable parts.
  Always consult authorized service personnel for repair, installation, and relocation of this product.
  Improper installation or handling will cause leakage, electric shock, or fi re.
• In the event of a malfunction such as a burning smell, immediately stop the operation of the air conditioner, and disconnect all the power supply by turning off the electrical breaker or disconnecting the power plug.
  Then consult authorized service personnel.
• Take care not to damage the power supply cable.
  If it is damaged, it should be replaced only by authorized service personnel in order to avoid a hazard.
• If a refrigerant leakage is suspected, all naked flames shall be removed or extinguished, and consult authorized service personnel.
• In the event of a thunderstorm or any prior sign of a lightning strike, turn off the air conditioner via the remote controller, and refrain from touching the product or the power source to prevent any electrical hazards.
• This product is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of this product by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this product.
• Dispose of the packing materials safely. Tear and dispose of the plastic packing bags so that children cannot play with them. There is a danger of suffocation if children play with the original plastic bags.
• Do not start or stop the operation of this product by inserting or pulling out the power plug, or by turning on or off the circuit breaker.
• Do not use flammable gases near this product.
• Do not expose yourself directly to the cooling airflow for many hours.
• Do not insert your fingers or any other objects into the outlet port or inlet port.
• Do not operate with wet hands.

CAUTION

• Provide occasional ventilation during use.
• Always operate this product with air fi lters installed.
• Ensure that any electronic equipment is at least 40 in (1 m) away from this product.
• Disconnect all the power supply when not using this product for extended periods.
• After a long period of use, ensure to get the mounting of the indoor unit checked to prevent this product from falling down.
• The airfl ow direction and the room temperature should be carefully considered when you use this product in a room with infants, children, elderly or sick persons.
• Keep the surroundings of the outdoor unit clean and tidy, and do not place items around it. Any objects blocking or entering from the outlet ports may cause product malfunction.
• Do not direct the airfl ow at fireplaces or heating apparatus.
• Do not block or cover the intake grille and the outlet port.
• Do not apply any heavy pressure to the radiator fins.
• Do not climb on, place objects on, or hang objects from this product.
• Do not place any other electrical products or household belongings under this product. Dripping condensation from this product might get them wet, and may cause damage or malfunction of your property.
• Do not expose this product directly to water.
• Do not use this product for the preservation of food, plants, animals, precision equipment, artwork, or other objects.
  This may cause quality deterioration of those items.
• Do not expose animals or plants to the direct airfl ow.
• Do not drink the drainage from the air conditioner.
• Do not pull the power supply cable.
• Do not touch the aluminum fi ns of the heat exchanger built in this product to avoid personal injury when you maintain the unit.
• Do not stand on unstable steps when operating or cleaning this product. It may overturn and can cause injury.

PREPARATION

WARNING

• Take care to prevent infants and young children from accidentally swallowing the batteries.

CAUTION

• If leaking battery fluid comes in contact with your skin, eyes, or mouth, immediately rinse with plenty of clean water, and consult your physician.
• Exhausted batteries must be removed immediately, and be disposed of according to the local laws and regulations of your region.
• Do not attempt to recharge dry batteries.
• Do not use dry batteries that have been recharged.

Indoor unit accessories 

Check that the following accessories are included.

Remote controller holder installation 

NAME OF PARTS

CAUTION

For appropriate signal transmission between the remote controller and the indoor unit, keep the signal receiver away from the following items:

• Direct sunlight or other strong lights
• Flat-panel television screen
  In rooms with instantaneous fl fluorescent lights, such as inverter-type ones, the signal may not be transmitted properly. In such a case, consult the store of purchase.

3.1. Remote controller
CAUTION

• To prevent malfunction or damage of the remote controller:
• Place remote controller at where will not be exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
• Remove batteries if the product is not going to be used for an extended period.
• Obstacles such as a curtain or wall between the remote controller and the indoor unit may affect the appropriate signal transmission.
• Do not apply strong shocks to the remote controller.
• Do not pour water on the remote controller.

When you use the optional remote controller, the appearance and the operation procedure may differ.
For details, refer to the operation manual of each remote controller.

3.2. Inserting batteries

Battery type: R03/LR03/AAA × 2

1~3. Put batteries as shown in the fi gure above.
Press as shown in the fi gure above.
NOTES:

• Use specifi ed types of batteries only.
• Do not mix different types of new and used batteries together.
• Batteries can be used for about 1 year in ordinary use.
• If the remote control range noticeably shortens, replace the batteries, and presses shown in the fi gure above.

3.3. Indoor unit 

: The instruction is related to the wireless LAN control (optional).

1. Before starting the operation, make sure that the intake grille is closed completely. Incomplete closing may affect the proper function or performance of the product.
2. Indicator lamps light in the following conditions.

BASIC OPERATIONS

3 steps to start operation

1. Press/I to start or stop the operation.
2. Press MODEto select the operation mode.
   The operation mode changes as follows.
   
3. Press to set the desired temperature. The temperature changes by 1 °F (0.5 °C) increments.

NOTES:

• In the Cooling or Dry mode, set the temperature lower than the current room temperature.
• In the Heating mode,
  – set the temperature higher than the current room temperature.
  – at the beginning of the operation, the indoor unit fan rotates at very low speed for 3-5 minutes.
  – the Automatic defrosting operation overrides the Heating operation when necessary.
• In the Fan mode, temperature control is not available.

■ Temperature unit switching

5.1. Fan speed setting
Press FAN SPEED to control the fan speed.
The fan speed changes as follows.
When AUTO is selected, the fan speed depends on the operating condition.
NOTE: In the Dry mode, the fan speed is fixed to AUTO.

5.2. Airfl ow direction setting
For details of the airfl ow ranges, refer to “Airfl ow direction range”.

• Up/down airfl ow direction setting
  Press to adjust the up/down airfl ow direction.
• Left/right airfl ow direction setting
  Press to adjust the left/right airfl ow direction.
• Swing operation setting
  Press SWING to select the Swing operation.

The Swing operation changes as follows. 

NOTE: The Swing operation may stop temporarily when the indoor unit fan is rotating at very low speed or is stopped.

Airfl ow direction range
Up/down airfl ow direction 

• The Swing operation range depends on the airfl ow direction set before the Swing operation.

NOTES:

• Do not adjust the horizontal louvers by hand.
• In the Auto or Heating mode, the airfl ow direction stays at position 1 for a while from the start of the operation.
• In the Cooling or Dry mode, position 1-3 is recommended to prevent condensation drips from damaging your property. If position 4-6 keeps for 30 minutes or more in these modes, the airfl ow direction changes to position 3 automatically.
• When using the mobile app (an optional WLAN adapter is necessary), the up/down airfl ow can be selected from 4 positions.

Left/right airfl ow direction

NOTE: In the Auto mode operation, you cannot change the airflow direction for a while from the start of the operation.

TIMER OPERATIONS

NOTE: When [ ] indicator on the indoor unit blinks, set the clock and timer again. This blinking shows that the internal clock goes wrong due to an interruption of the power supply.

■ Timer setting procedure

1. Pressto choose timer operation. Each time you press the button, the timer operation will change as follows:
   

   Off timer	Stops the operation at your desired time.
   On timer	Starts the operation at your desired time.
   Program timer	Operates as the combination of the On timer and Off timer.
   Cancel	Deactivate the timer.

   • If you choose “Cancel”, the display returns to the operation display.
   • To set a sleep timer, press SLEEP. (Refer to “6.3. Sleep timer”.)

2. Set each timer operation.
   For details, refer to the following instructions of each timer setting.

6.1. On timer or Off timer

1. Select On timer or Off timer in step 1 of “Timer setting procedure.”
2. Each time you press, the time changes as follows:

• When you use the On timer, set the time while the indicator on the remote controller display is blinking.
• When you use the Off timer, set the time while the indicator on the remote controller display is blinking.
• To deactivate the On/Off timer, select Cancel in step 1 of “Timer setting procedure” while [ ON] or [ OFF] is shown on the remote controller display. The indicator will disappear.

NOTE: If you set the Sleep timer after setting the On/Off timer, the On/Off timer is canceled.

6.2. Program timer

1. Set On Timer and Off timer. (Refer to “6.1. On timer or Off timer”.)
2. Select Program timer in step 1 of “Timer setting procedure”.
   After the time set by the earlier timer passed, the timer set later will begin the counting down.
   The order of the timer operation is displayed as follows:

Timer	The indicator on the remote controller display
Off→On timer	ON ▲ OFF
On →Off timer	ON ▼ OFF

NOTE: If you set the Sleep timer after setting the Program timer, the Program timer is canceled.

6.3. Sleep timer
The Sleep timer supports your comfortable sleep by moderating the air conditioner operation gradually.

Press SLEEP.
Each time you press the button, the time changes as follows:

To repeat the timer, press the button when the SLEEP indicator is not displayed.
During the Sleep timer operation, the setting temperature changes as the following fi gure.

After the set time has elapsed, the air conditioner operation turns off.

ENERGY SAVING OPERATION

7.1. Economy operation
It saves more electricity than other operation modes by changing the set temperature to a moderate setting.
Press to activate/deactivate the Economy operation.
[ ] indicator on the indoor unit will turn on.

NOTES:

• In the Cooling, Heating, or Dry mode, the maximum output of this operation is approximately 70 % of the usual operation.
• This operation cannot be performed during the temperature monitoring by the Auto mode.

7.2. Fan control for energy saving 

In the Cooling operation, when the room temperature reaches the set temperature, the indoor unit fan rotates intermittently to save power. (This function is deactivated at the  time of purchase.)
To change the setting, use the following steps;

1. Press until the indicators on the remote controller turn off.
2. Press and hold FAN SPEED for more than 5 seconds.
   The and the current status will appear.
   ON: Activated
   OFF: Deactivated
3. Press to switch the status.
4. Press to send the set to the indoor unit.
   The display will return to the original screen.

NOTE: If you do not press any buttons for 30 seconds after are displayed, will turn off. In this case, repeat the setting from step 2.

OTHER OPERATIONS

8.1. Powerful operation
In the Powerful operation, the air conditioner will operate at maximum power and strong airfl ow to cool down or warm up the room quickly.

Press POWERFULL to activate/deactivate the Powerful operation.
When activated, the indoor unit will emit 2 short beeps.
When deactivated, the indoor unit will emit 1 short beep.
The Powerful operation will be turned off automatically in the following situations:

• The Powerful operation runs for a certain amount of time and the
  room temperature reaches the set temperature in the Cooling, Dry,
  or Heating mode.
• 20 minutes after the Powerful operation has started.

NOTES:

• The airfl ow direction and the fan speed are controlled automatically.
• The Powerful operation cannot be performed simultaneously with the Economy operation.
• If the wired remote controller (optional) is connected, this function is restricted.

8.2. Minimum heat operation (optional)

NOTE:

• This function is available only by the wireless LAN control (optional).
  Minimum heat operation maintains the room temperature at 50 °F (10 °C) so as to prevent the room temperature to drop too low.
  – When activated, [ ] indicator on the indoor unit will turn on.
  – When deactivated, [ ] indicator will turn off.

NOTES:

• During the Minimum heat operation, only the up/down and left/right airfl ow direction settings are valid.
• When the room temperature is warm enough, This operation will not be performed.

SETTINGS ON INSTALLATION

9.1. Remote controller custom code setting
By setting the custom code of the indoor unit and remote controller, you can specify the air conditioner which the remote controller controls.
When two or more air conditioners are in the room and you wish to operate them separately, set the custom code (4 selections possible).
NOTE: If custom codes is different between the indoor unit and the remote controller, the indoor unit cannot receive a signal from the remote controller.

How to set the remote controller custom code

1. Pressuntil the indicators on the remote controller turn off.
2. Press down MODE for more than 5 seconds.
   The current custom code will be displayed (initially set to A).
3. Press to change the custom code between
   * Match the custom code on the display to the air conditioner custom code.
4. Press MODE again.
   The custom code will be set.
   The display will return to the original display.
   

• To change the air conditioner custom code, contact authorized service personnel (initially set to A).
• If you do not press any buttons for 30 seconds after the custom code is displayed, the displayed custom code is set and the display returns to the original display.
• Depending on the remote controller, the custom code may return to A when replacing the batteries. In this case, reset the custom code as necessary. If you do not know the air conditioner custom code, try each code until you find the code which operates the air conditioner.

CLEANING AND CARE

CAUTION

• Before cleaning this product, be sure to turn it off and disconnect all the power supply.
• Before starting the operation, make sure that the intake grille has been shut completely. Incomplete closing of the intake grille might have an effect on the proper working or performance of the air conditioner.
• If the fi lter cleaning involves high-place work, consult the authorized service personnel.
• Do not touch the aluminum fi ns of the heat exchanger built-in in the indoor unit to avoid personal injury when you maintain the unit.
• Do not expose the indoor unit to liquid insecticides or hair sprays.
• Do not stand on slippery, uneven, or unstable surfaces when you maintain the unit.
  

The frequency of the cleaning is shown in the following table.

• The air cleaning fi lters are sold separately. When you replace them, contact the store of purchase.

Cleaning the indoor unit body
NOTES:

• Do not use water hotter than 104 °F (40 °C).
• Do not use scouring cleanser or volatile solvents such as benzene or thinner.
  1. Wipe the indoor unit body gently with a soft cloth moistened with warm water.
  2. Wipe the indoor unit body gently with a dry and soft cloth.

Cleaning air filter

1. Open the intake grille until it snaps.
   
2. Remove the air filters.
   Lift up the air filters’ handle, disconnect the two lower tabs, and pull out.
   
3. Remove the dust in either of the following ways.
   • Cleaning with a vacuum cleaner.
   • Washing with mild detergent and warm water. After washing, dry the air filters thoroughly in shade.
4. Replace the air fi lters.
   Align the sides of the air fi lter with the panel, and push in fully.
   Make sure to the two lower tabs are returned to their holes in the indoor unit properly.
5. Close the intake grille.
   Press 4 places on the intake grille to close it completely.
   

NOTE: If dirt accumulates on the air fi lter, airfl ow will be reduced, operating efficiency will lower, and the noise will increase.

Cleaning Ion deodorization fi lter and Replacing Apple-catechin filter

1. Remove the air fi lters. Refer to steps 1 ~ 2 of “Cleaning air filter”.
2. Remove the air cleaning fi lters from the air cleaning filter holders.
   
3. Flush the Ion deodorization fi lter with high-pressure hot water until the surface of the filters are covered with water.
4. Wash the Ion deodorization fi lter with a diluent neutral detergent.
   Do not ream or rub, otherwise, the deodorizing effect may decrease.
5. Rinse the Ion deodorization fi lter with water flow.
6. Dry the Ion deodorization fi lter in shade.
7. Set the new or washed air cleaning fi lters into the air cleaning fi lter holders.
   NOTE: Use the Apple-catechin fi lter as soon as possible after opening the package. The air cleaning effect decreases when the fi lters are left in the opened package.
8. Install the air cleaning fi lter holders to the air fi lters.
   Engage the 4 hooks at the rear of the air cleaning fi lter holder with the latch at both ends of the air filter.
   NOTE: Take care that the air cleaning fi lter does not project beyond the holder.
9. Replace the air fi lters and close the intake grille. Refer to steps 4 ~ 5 of “Cleaning air filter”.

2. Pull the mounting shafts while keeping the intake grille in a horizontal position.

1. While holding the intake grille horizontal, set the left and right mounting shafts into the pillow blocks at the top of the front panel.
   Insert the shaft until it snaps to latch each shaft properly.
2. Close the intake grille.
3. Press 4 places on the intake grille to close it completely.
   

GENERAL INFORMATION

Heating performance
This air conditioner operates on the heat-pump principle, absorbing heat from air outdoors and transferring that heat to the indoor unit. As a result, the operating performance is reduced as outdoor air temperature drops.
If you feel that the heating performance is insuffi cient, we recommend you to use this air conditioner in conjunction with other kinds of heating appliances.

Automatic defrosting operation
When the outdoor temperature is very low with high humidity, frost may form on the outdoor unit during the heating operation, and it could reduce the operating performance of the product.
For frost protection, an automatic defrost function is equipped in this air conditioner.
If frost forms, the air conditioner will temporarily stop, and defrost circuit will operate briefl y (maximum of 15 minutes.)
[ ] indicator on the indoor unit blinks during this operation.
If frost forms on the outdoor unit after the Heating operation, the outdoor unit will stop automatically after it operates for a few minutes. Then the Automatic defrosting operation starts.

Auto-restart function
In event of a power interruption such as a blackout, the air conditioner stops once. But it restarts automatically and performs the previous operations when the power supply is resumed.
If any power interruption occurs after the timer is set, the counting down of the timer will be reset.
After the power supply is resumed, the [] indicator on the indoor unit blinks to notify you that there has been a timer fault. In such a case, reset the clock and timer settings.

Malfunctions caused by other electrical devices
Use of other electrical appliances such as an electric shaver or nearby use of a wireless radio transmitter may cause the malfunction of the air conditioner.
If you encounter such a malfunction, turn off the circuit breaker once.
Then turn it on again, and resume operation by using the remote controller.

Indoor unit temperature and humidity range
Permissible ranges of temperature and humidity are as follows:

*1) If the air conditioner is used continuously for many hours, water may condense on the surface and drip.

• If the unit is operated under conditions except for the permissible temperature range, the air conditioner operation may stop because of the automatic protection circuit working.
• Depending on the operating conditions, the heat exchanger may freeze, causing water leakage or other malfunction (in the Cooling or Dry mode).

Other information

• Do not use the air conditioner for any purpose other than room cooling/drying, room heating, or fan.
• For the permissible ranges of temperature and humidity for the outdoor unit, refer to the outdoor unit installation manual.

Emergency heat (Special setting)
An auxiliary heater can be used instead of the outdoor unit if the auxiliary heater is connected and the function is set correctly during installation.
Consult authorized service personnel to use this function.
To activate/deactivate this function, Press on the indoor unit for 2
seconds or less during the Heating operation. (Refer to page 4.)
During the Emergency heat operation, [] indicator lamp will blink (3 seconds on, 1 second off).

OPTIONAL PARTS

12.1. Wired remote controller
The optional wired remote controller can be used.
You can use wired and wireless remote controllers together.
However, some functions of the wireless remote controller are restricted.
If you set the restricted functions, a beeping sound will be heard, [], [ ], [ ] and [ ] indicator on the indoor unit will blink.

Powerful operation
You can use a wired remote controller and wireless LAN control together (optional).
However, some operations from the mobile app are restricted.
Multiple remote controllers, You can connect two wired remote controllers to one air conditioner.
Either remote controller can control the air conditioner.
However, the timer functions cannot be used by the secondary unit.

Group control
One remote controller can control up to 16 air conditioners. All of the air conditioners will be operated with the same settings.
You cannot use group control and wireless LAN control together.

12.2. Wireless LAN control
To use the wireless LAN control, the WLAN adapter and mobile app are necessary.
For how to operate the mobile app, refer to the operation manual of the mobile app.
Write down the SSID and the PIN code in the following table.

Setting to use wireless LAN control
Step 1. Application software installation

1. Open “Google Play” or “App Store” depending on the type of your smartphone or tablet PC.
2. Search for “fair”.
3. Install the application software (mobile app) following the instructions on your screen.

Step 2. User registration

1. Open the installed mobile app.
2. Register the user (with either a smartphone or tablet PC) by following the instructions in the create an account section of the mobile app.

Step 3. Installing WLAN adapter

CAUTION

• Be sure to turn off the power supply of the air conditioner when installing or removing this product to avoid the risk of electric shock.
• Do not put fingers, sticks, etc. in the connection part of this product and the connection slot of the indoor unit.
  Otherwise, electric shock or damage to the product may occur.
• Do not stand on an unstable platform when installing or removing this product to avoid injury.

1. Be sure to turn air conditioner off and to disconnect all the power supply.
2. Open the intake grille.
   
3. Open the WLAN adapter cover until it snaps.
   
4. Plug the WLAN adapter into the connection slot of the indoor unit in the direction as shown in the fi gure.
   
5. Close the WLAN adapter cover and the intake grille.

Step 4. Air conditioner registration (pairing of WLAN adapter)
NOTES:

• Before starting this setting, reconnect the power supply of the air conditioner and wait for 60 seconds or more.
• Check that the smartphone or tablet PC is linked to the access point you are connecting to the air conditioner. The setting will not work if it is not connected to the same access point.
• To control 2 or more air conditioners with the same smartphone or tablet PC, repeat the setup of the chosen model.
  Register the air conditioner by following the instructions on the mobile app.
  This operation manual describes only the setting procedure of the remote controller.

When the registration is completed, the []indicator on the indoor unit will turn on.

   When the WLAN adapter find a connectable access point, the blinking will become slower (on/off = 2 s/0.5 s).
   NOTE: If the connection to the access point is not finished in several minutes, the Easy connection mode is canceled, and the [] indicator turns off.
   In this case, repeat the remote controller setting.

Temporary deactivation of wireless LAN
NOTE: If you do not press any buttons on the remote controller for 60 seconds, the remote controller display will return to the original display.

1. Press with the tip of a ballpoint pen or other small object. “” will appear.
   
2. Press.
   The current status will appear.

   	Activated
   	Deactivated

3. Select using.
4. Press.
   [] indicator on the indoor unit will turn off.
   * If you want to activate wireless LAN control again, select “ON” at step 3.

Initialization (reset)
Initialize (reset) this product in the following situations:

• Changing the access point
• Disposing of this product
• Transferring this product to a third party

Unregister the air conditioner
Unregister the air conditioner by using the mobile app. (Refer to the operation manual of the mobile app for details.)
Initialization of the WLAN adapter
NOTE: If you do not press any buttons on the remote controller for 60 seconds, the remote controller display will return to the original display.

1. Press 3 times as shown in page 3. L3 will be displayed on the remote controller display.
   
2. Press.
   “In ” will appear.
3. Press and hold for more than 5 seconds.
   [] indicator on the indoor unit will blink fast, then turn off.

To continue use
If you or a third party wishes to continue the use of the product, follow the procedures in “Air conditioner registration (pairing of WLAN adapter)” to reconnect to a different access point.
NOTE: Wireless LAN setup is not possible if the previous owner did not unregister or initialize this product. In this case, contact your authorized service personnel.

Firmware update
CAUTION
Do not pull out the power plug nor turn off the circuit breaker during the fi rmware update of the indoor unit or WLAN adapter. It may cause malfunction.

For WLAN adapter
The fi rmware of the WLAN adapter may be updated automatically.
During the update, you cannot operate the air conditioner from the mobile app. It will take a maximum of 5 minutes.
For indoor unit
The fi rmware of the indoor unit may be updated. You can set the schedule of the updating or update the fi rmware manually from the mobile app. For details, refer to the operation manual for the mobile app.
During the update, the indicator lamps blink and the air conditioner stops operation. (Refer to “State of indicator lamps”.) It will take a maximum of 30 minutes.

TROUBLESHOOTING

In the following events, immediately stop the operation of the air conditioner, and disconnect all the power supply by turning off the electrical breaker or disconnecting the power plug. Then consult your dealer or authorized service personnel.
As long as the unit is connected to the power supply, it is not insulated from the power supply even if the unit is turned off.

• Unit smells of something burning or emits smoke
• Water leaks from the unit

Does not operate at all.

• Has there been a power outage?
  In this case, the unit restarts automatically after the power supply is resumed. (Refer to page 8.)
• Has the circuit breaker been turned off?
  ⇒ Turn on the circuit breaker.
• Has a fuse blown out or the circuit breaker been tripped?
  ⇒ Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.
• Is the timer operating?
  ⇒ To check or deactivate the timer setting, refer to page 5.
• <When using the wireless LAN control> Is the WLAN adapter in a firmware update?
  During the fi rmware update of the WLAN adapter, you cannot operate the air conditioner from the mobile app. Operate from the remote controller or wait until the  update is complete (for a maximum of 5 minutes).
• <When using the wireless LAN control> Is the indoor unit in a fi rmware update?
  During the fi rmware update of the indoor unit, the air conditioner stops operation. Wait until the update is complete. (for a maximum of 30 minutes).

Poor cooling or heating performance.

• Is the unit operating under the conditions except for the permissible temperature range?
  In this case, the air conditioner may stop because of the automatic protection circuit working.
• Is the air fi lter dirty?
  ⇒ Clean the air fi lter. (Refer to page 7.)
• Is the intake grille or outlet port of the indoor unit blocked?
  ⇒ Remove the obstructions.
• Is the room temperature adjusted appropriately?
  ⇒ To change the temperature setting, refer to page 4.
• Is a window or door left opened?
  ⇒ Close the window or the door.
• Is the fan speed set to Quiet?
  ⇒ To change the fan speed, refer to page 4.
• <In the Cooling mode> Is direct or strong sunlight shining into the room?
  ⇒ Close the curtains.
• <In the Cooling mode>Are there other heating apparatus or computers operating, or too many people in the room?
  ⇒ Turn the heating apparatus or computers off, or set the temperature lower. (Refer to page 4.)

Humidity does not drop during the Dry operation.

• You cannot set the target humidity in the Dry mode. If you feel high humidity, set the temperature lower.

Airfl ow is weak or stops.

• Is the fan speed set to Quiet?
  ⇒ To change the fan speed, refer to page 4.
• Has the Fan Control for Energy Saving set? In this case, the indoor unit fan may stop temporarily while the Cooling operation.
  ⇒ To cancel the Fan control for energy saving, refer to page 6.
• <In the Heating mode> Have you just started the operation?
  In this case, the fan rotates at a very low speed temporarily to warm up the internal parts of the unit.
• <In the Heating mode> Is the room temperature higher than the set temperature?
  In this case, the outdoor unit stops and the indoor unit fan rotates at a very low speed.
• <In the Heating mode> Is [ ] indicator blinking?
  In this case, the Automatic defrosting operation is working. The indoor unit stops for a maximum of 15 minutes. (Refer to page 8.)
• <In the Dry mode> The indoor unit operates at low fan speed to adjust the room humidity and may stop from time to time.
• <In the Auto mode> While the monitoring operation, the fan rotates at a very low speed.

Noise is heard.

• Is the unit operating, or immediately after stopping operation? In this case, refrigerant fl owing sound may be heard. It may be particularly noticeable for 2-3 minutes after starting the operation.
• Do you hear a slight squeaking sound during the operation?
  This sound is produced by the minute expansion and contraction of the front panel caused by temperature change.
• <In the Heating mode> Do you hear a sizzling sound?
  This sound is produced by the Automatic defrosting operation.
  (Refer to page 8.)

Smell coming from the unit.

• The air conditioner may absorb various smells generated from interior textile, furniture, or cigarette smoke. These smells may be emitted during the operation.

Mist or steam is emitted from the unit.

• <In the Cooling or Dry mode> A thin mist may be generated by condensation formed with a sudden cooling process.
• <In the Heating mode> Is [] indicator on the indoor unit blinking?
  In this case, steam may rise from the outdoor unit because of the Automatic defrosting operation. (Refer to page 8.)
  The outdoor unit emits water.
• <In the Heating mode> The outdoor unit may emit water generated by the Automatic defrosting operation. (Refer to page 8.)
  The unit operates differently from the remote controller setting.
• Are the batteries in the remote controller exhausted?
  ⇒ Replace the batteries.
  Operation is delayed after the restart.
• Has the power supply turned from Off to On suddenly?
  In this case, the compressor will not operate for about 3 minutes to prevent a blowout of the fuse.

Immediately stop operation and turn off the electrical breaker in the following cases. Then consult authorized service personnel.

• The problem persists even if you perform these checks or diagnostics.
• On the indoor unit, [ ] and [ ] blink while [ ] is blinking fast.

NOTE: For any troubleshooting related to the wireless LAN control, refer to the setting manual for the WLAN adapter or the mobile app installed in your smartphone or tablet PC.

Manual Auto operation and Filter indicator reset
You can operate the air conditioner on the indoor unit. (Refer to page 4.)

1. To stop the forced cooling, press this button or on the remote controller.
2. Refer to “Emergency heat (page 8)” for details.

Service check
If [ ] and [ ] blink while [ ] is blinking fast on the indoor unit, check the error code. The error code is 2-digit numbers or characters.

1. Press and hold for more than 5 seconds.
   The remote controller will enter to the Service check mode and “ will be shown.
2. Press TEM/SLECT   to change the shown error code.
   The indoor unit emits 1 short beep each time the error code changes.
   When the corresponding error code is shown, the indoor unit emits multiple beeps, and all the indicator lamps on the indoor unit blink.
   

To fi nish the Service check mode, press.
The remote controller will return to the original display.
Tell the error code to authorized service personnel when consulting them.
If the indoor unit emits multiple beeps at “00”, no error is detected.
