Operation

To bring the heater into use plug it in, the neon indicator light will glow when the appliance is actually heating.

A selector switch/switches provide a choice of half or full heat output to suit varying conditions and for economy of operation.

Thermostat operation
The thermostat has four operational zones as follows

Zone 1 · Provided the heater is set to a heating function, the heater will come on when the surrounding air temperature falls to approx. 5°C. This setting can be used to guard against frosty conditions.

Zone 2 – Provides low heat output on half and full heat setting, giving background heating.
Zone 3 – Provides medium heat output on half and full heat setting.
Zone 4 – Provides high heat output on half and full heat setting.

Setting the thermostat
Plug in the heater and set switches to give full heat output. Turn thermostat knob fully clockwise to high position for maximum heat output to warm the room rapidly. When the room temperature has reached the desired level, turn the thermostat knob back slowly until the thermostat just clicks off and the neon light goes out. The heater will then operate under the control of the thermos tat to maintain the chosen temperature level, provided that the heater is of sufficient size for the room to be heated.

NOTE – Should the heater fail to come on when the thermostat is at a low setting (Zone 2), this may be due to the room temperature being higher than the thermostat setting.

Timer models
Timer models are fitted with a 24 hour programmable timer enabling the heater to be switched ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ automatically if desired, and a single heat selector switch.

Using the timer
The heater must be connected to the electricity supply for the timer to operate. The switch on the timer controls the electricity supply to the heating elements.

Set the timer by rotating the dial clockwise until the correct time of day is indicated opposite the datum mark. Should the electricity supply to the heater be disconnected it will be necessary to reset the timer to the time of day.

Safety cutout

The heater is fitted with a thermal safety cut-out which will switch off the heat er should it overheat for any reason. If the cut-out operates it is the result of abnormal overheating, and servicing of the appliance by a competent service engineer will be required to ensure the future safe operation of the heater. In this event the manufacturer’s authorized Service Agent should be contacted.

The heater also includes a tilt switch, which ensures that should the heater be accidentally knocked over whilst in use, it will immediately switch off. The heater will resume normal operation once it is righted.

Cleaning
Unplug the heater and allow to cool before commencing cleaning . The heater can be cleaned by wiping it over with a soft damp, not wet, cloth and then dried. DO NOT use abrasive cleaning powders or detergents as these can damage the surface finish.

Storage
If the radiator is not required for long periods, for example during the summer, it should be stored in a dry place and preferably covered to prevent the accumulation of dirt and dust. The supply cord should be neatly coiled around the handle pull ensuring that the plug does not trail on the floor.

After Sales Service
Your product is guaranteed for two years from the date of purchase. We undertake to exchange or repair free of charge within this period any part found to be defective. The inner panel of this heater is filled with a precise quantity of special oil and is permanently sealed. Any oil leakage must be reported to the manufacturer’s Service Agent. Should you require after sales service, please get in touch with the supplier through whom you purchased the appliance, or your nearest Service Agent.

Dimplex LPC Series Smart Baseboard Heater - icon

Placement of the Smart Baseboard
Smart Baseboards are high-performance heaters designed to operate at higher outlet temperatures than conventional baseboard heaters. They can be directly mounted onto drywall, plaster, wood, or concrete walls. Due to the higher outlet temperature, the wall surface can reach temperatures of 160º F (71º C) or above and some materials may discolor or deform at these temperatures, e.g. vinyl or plastic. In these cases, the heater can be mounted with an offset from the wall and floor to reduce the temperature being applied to those materials. By installing the heater with the provided Installation Optimizer kit, the temperature of the wall above the heater can be reduced to 129º F (54º C).

! NOTE: If the unit is being installed on a newly constructed
wall, ensure that all products that have been applied are fully cured according to the manufacturer’s instructions, before operating the unit.

Recommendations for Locating Drapes and Furniture near Heater (Figure 1)

! NOTE: Any objects or materials that are located within the distances outlined below should not discolor, nor distort dimensionally (stretch or shrink) upon extended exposure ( up to 1000 hrs.) to temperatures of 200º F (93º C).

For the most satisfactory operation of the heaters and minimum effect on drapes, furniture, and objects in close proximity, the following recommendations should be observed:

  1. Full-Length Drapes: Hang drapes so there is at least 1.5″ (3.8 cm) between the top of the drapes and the ceiling, at least 1.5″ (3.8cm) between the bottom of the drapes and the finished floor covering (such as carpet, if used) AND at least 3″ (7.6 cm) between the front vertical surface of the heater and the nearest fold of the drapes (opened drape). (Figure 1A)
  2. Shorter Length Drapes: Hang drapes so there is at least 1.5″ (3.8 cm) between the top of the drapes and the ceiling, and at least 6″ (15.2 cm), preferably more, between the bottom of the drapes and the top horizontal surface of the heater. (Figure 1B)
    7211700100R18
  3. Furniture: Place furniture no closer than 3″ (7.62 cm) from the front of the Smart Baseboard. (Figure 1D)
  4. Overhanging Solid Objects (Except Plastic): Position Smart baseboard so there is at least 14″ (35.6 cm) between the top of the heater and any solid object that obstructs or redirects the vertical airflow out of the top of the unit. (Figure 1C)
  5. Overhanging Plastic Objects: All Plastic items that cannot withstand extended exposure to temperatures 60º C or higher should be kept a minimum of 20″ (50.8cm) above the unit. (Figure 1C))

! NOTE: Ensure that when 2 Smart Baseboards are installed near the same corner they are both a minimum of 6″ from the corner.

Installation

All Smart Baseboards must be connected from the right side of the heater.

! NOTE: The left-hand end of the enclosure can be used as a junction box and the space under the heater can be used as a wire way.
Warning CAUTION: Disconnect the power supply before installation to prevent electric shock.

  1. Unpack and place Smart Baseboard on the floor face up, use packaging to protect the floor if required. Remove front covers.
! NOTE: Remove the center cover, by releasing the top first.
! NOTE: Heater fins can be easily bent. For optimal performance ensure that they remain vertical.
  2. Orient unit in desired location and mark pilot holes – top and bottom at both ends and at least one set in the middle.
  3. Wire unit as per diagrams (below) and National and Local Electrical Codes.
Warning CAUTION: Connect heaters to a branch circuit used only for the permanently installed heater and protected by overcurrent devices rated or set at no more than 30 amperes. The total connected load should not be more than 80% of the rating of the over-current devices. It may cause a fire hazard if not installed and maintained in accordance with these instructions.
  4. Position LPC, push the cable back into the wall (or conduit), run screws through pre-selected mounting holes and spacers (if applicable), using appropriate wall anchors, if necessary.
! NOTE: Screw should be backed off 1/2 turn from snug
position to allow free expansion and contraction of housing and to ensure quiet operation.
  5. Replace covers on the unit. ! NOTE: Install the center cover first, by installing the top first, then the bottom.

Usage of Multiple Smart Baseboards
Multiple Smart Baseboards can be wired in parallel on a single circuit. To use/control multiple Smart Baseboards from a single source, a CONNEX™ controller can be used. By synchronizing one CONNEX™ controller to multiple LPCs, the controller can control all of the heaters from one location. Each component must be within 15m (45ft) of any other component in the system for the entire system to operate.

uAvionix AV-20 AV 20-S - NOTE

  1. This smart baseboard must be properly installed before it is used.
  2. Prior to energizing, remove all construction dirt (plaster, sawdust, etc.) from the interior and exterior of the smart baseboard.

Dimplex smart baseboards are designed and tested for safe and trouble-free operation. All Dimplex smart baseboards are protected against overheating by a built-in thermal cutout. Free airflow throughout the smart baseboard is very important for the most efficient operation of the smart baseboard. Restricted airflow may cause the thermal overload protector to cycle the smart baseboard “ON and OFF”. A cycling smart baseboard will not supply sufficient heat to the room.

Warning CAUTION: Avoid direct contact of paper, fabric, or furniture with the smart baseboard, to prevent a possible fire. When power is first supplied to the LPC the Setpoint Temperature will flash in the temperature display area. At any time either the + or button can be pressed to have the temperature setpoint displayed again.

A. Setting/Temperature Display

The LPC is designed to control the temperature of a room anywhere from 32-86°F (0-30°C). Pressing the + or will increase or decrease the desired temperature for the room to be heated by 0.5° (in either °C or °F).

After 5 seconds the Setpoint Temperature will switch to display the intake temperature of the room.

! NOTE: Pressing the + and – at the same time will toggle between °C and °F.

Wiring Diagram

B. Economy Setting
The Economy Setting can be used to change the Setpoint Temperature for a variable period of time. By pressing the V the Economy Setting will be enabled – signified by the icon flashing. After the Set Back Temperature has been set, the icon will become solid after three seconds and the Set Back Temperature will be enabled.

To return back to the Comfort Setting press the V button and the icon will disappear and the icon will appear.

C. Set Back Temperature Setting
The Set Back Temperature Setting is used during periods when the Economy setting feature is active. This temperature adjustment can be set by pressing the V followed by the + or.

D. Comfort Setting
The Comfort Setting icon will be displayed when the heater is in normal operation based on the Setpoint Temperature for the room.
! NOTE: Either the or icon will always be visible, dependent on the setting being used.

E. Synchronized Icon
The LPC features CONNEX™, a wireless technology that works with Dimplex single and multi-zone CONNEX™ controllers to provide simple whole-home connectivity and comfort. FAQ’S

Is this a portable heater?

No, it is not. It is a baseboard heater.

Can I use this in my RV?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to purchase an RV adapter kit.

Can I use this in my boat?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to purchase a marine adapter kit.

Can I use this in my camper?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to purchase a camper adapter kit.

What are the dimensions of this heater?

The dimensions are as follows: Width – 5″, Depth – 6 1/4″, Height – 3 1/2″

How do I turn off my baseboard heater?

Set the heater’s thermostat to the lowest setting, and your heater will be off. Alternatively, you can switch the thermostat off, and your unit will be off. If you’ve got an electric baseboard heater, the thermostat is on the wall, and with it, you can easily turn the heater off.

Do baseboard heaters shut off automatically?

This convection-powered cycle will continue until the room is at the desired temperature, and the baseboard heater will then automatically shut off, therefore conserving energy. Since electric baseboard heaters heat the room through convection (usually without the help of a fan), this keeps them quiet.

Do baseboard heaters use a lot of electricity?

For most of us, heating costs go up in the winter. And if you rely mostly on electric baseboard heaters, they probably make up a big part of your annual electricity bill – sometimes as much as 44%.

What is the disadvantage of baseboard electric heat?

The Cons of Electric Baseboard Heating
Best used for supplemental heating needs, the biggest cons of electrical baseboard heating are centered on their annual heating costs. Across the US, natural gas is almost always a less expensive way to heat your home.

Should I remove baseboard heaters?

To state it very simply, you need to have your baseboard heating system replaced when you detect that it has started to consume too much energy/ electricity and that it takes more time than usual to heat the room than it used to do earlier

How are baseboard heaters attached to the wall?

Just remember, you need to use screws not nails to attach the baseboard heater to the studs in the wall. As well, the baseboard heater must be installed horizontally at or near floor level. It can’t be installed vertically or up near the ceiling.

How are electric baseboard heaters wired?

Wiring baseboard heaters is as simple as adding a 20-amp circuit. Simply run a 12-2 non-metallic sheathed cable from the electrical service panel to the location of the baseboard heater. Since baseboard heaters have a built-in junction box, you won’t have to cut in a junction box to feed it.

Dimplex QM125RF Quantum HHR Storage Heater

Introduction

The outer case of the Quantum heater will be cooler to touch than a conventional storage heater. This is because less heat is ‘lost’ through the case, making more heat available from the fan outlet when needed. Nothing may be placed in the 30cm (1 foot) in front of the heater at any time. This is to avoid items coming into contact with the grille and the heated air which leaves it. Blocking some or all of this area could represent a fi re hazard. You do not need to decide how much heat to store. Simply set the timer mode and the temperature to what suits you and leave the heater to meet your requirements.  Ensure that both supply switches next to the heater are turned on. During the summer when no heat is required, both wall switches can be turned off . Remember to turn both of these back on in Autumn when heat is required again.

How does the heater control work?

The heater control allows you to chose when you want the heating to be on, and at what temperature. To deliver the required heat the control switches on and off a low speed fan that pushes stored heat from the core into the room. The periods during which the heater is providing heat are called Heating On shown at the bottom of the screen. Outside of these periods the heater will not deliver heat and these periods are called Heating Off. During the Heating On periods the low speed fan will run to maintain the temperature on the screen. During the Heating Off periods it will not. Note there is a delay of up to a minute on the fan operation when switching to Heating On or Heating off. This is normal and does not represent a fault.

Set the time

The time and date are set in the factory and should not need to be amended, however to check that they are correct press Menu, then press the Selector Dial with Time / Date highlighted. Rotate the Selector Dial until the correct value is shown, then press it down to confirm and move on to the next value. Repeat until all details are correct and the main menu screen is showing again, then press Back. The time is automatically adjusted in Spring and Autumn at the changes between Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and British Summer Time (BST). It is recommended to check the time every couple of months and adjust if necessary.

Set the temperature

The temperature shown on the display is the room temperature setpoint. This is the temperature that the heater will maintain during the ‘Heating On’ periods. If the room temperature is above this temperature then the fan will not operate. The heater leaves the factory with this temperature set at 21°C which represents a typical, comfortable room temperature. If you require a different room temperature then rotate the control dial either clockwise or anticlockwise until the display shows the temperature you require. YOU DO NOT NEED T TURN THIs DOWN OVERNIGHT.

Set the timer mode

Your Quantum heater comes pre-programmed with four timer modes. These modes define the periods when the heater will operate in Heating On mode.

The four modes are

Timer Mode Description
User Timer Select your desired timeframes 4 periods
Out All Day 7.5 hours heating per day in two periods
Home All Day 11 hours heating per day in four periods
Away Set the temperature and number of days for which you are on holiday

Which timer mode is best for me?

The heater leaves the factory set in Out All Day mode. If you are out during the day and only require heat in the mornings and evenings then this mode will suit your lifestyle and you won’t need to do anything. If you are in during the day then you should select the Home All Day mode. This mode will give you four periods of heating split throughout the day. If you are away for an extended period then you can use the Away mode. This allows you to reduce the heating during the period that you are away, reverting to the previously selected mode on the day you return. Please refer to the operating instructions for information on how to modify the programmed times.

Advance

Sometimes you may need to change the way you use your heating temporarily. This is achieved by using the Advance function. The Advance function allows you to begin the next Heating mode early. If the heater is in Heating Off mode and you want heat  press the Advance button. If the heater is in Heating On mode and you don’t want heat, press the Advance button. The heater’s change mode will go off until the beginning of the next Heating’ period, then go back to the timed heating periods.

Boost

A supplemental boost element controlled by the electronic thermostat is provided if additional room heating is required, for example, due to unusually cold weather. You can select how long the boost will run for, from one to four hours. Once the boost has run for the selected time it will automatically switch off.

Auto Boost will automatically use the boost element to maintain the set temperature during Heating On periods.

Note
Roost element uses near rate electricity and could lead to increased running costs.

Mounting

  1. 1a. If applicable, carefully pour and evenly distribute your choice of media in the media tray of the firebox.
  2. 1b. If desired, add driftwood logs on top of the media.
  3. 2a. If installing into a Dimplex mantel, first check to see if there are holes in the side panels near the top as shown below. If so, align the front of the firebox (without front glass installed) with the front face of the mantel. Install provided screws into the front holes on the inside faces of the firebox. The screw will line up with the hole in the mantel, securing it in place.
If there are no holes on the side panels of the mantel, remove the screw on the back bottom flange most convenient for securing, and use the L-bracket (provided) to secure the firebox to the mantel.
  4. 2b. If installing into a custom mantel, or into an existing opening, secure the firebox by inserting an appropriate screw through either the front hole or back hole on the inside face of the firebox, depending on which location is more appropriate for the installation.

Troubleshooting

  • In the ‘Settings’ menu of your iOS or Android device, ensure there is an active internet connection.
  • Your Dimplex Hub uses 2.4Ghz (b/g/n) Wi-Fi with WEP and WPA2 security. If your router/access point uses 5Ghz, newer standards such as AC or enterprise-level security such as WPA2E, you will have to adjust your Wi-Fi settings or connect via ethernet.
  • If you are setting up your Dimplex Hub via Wi-Fi on iOS, ensure that the device is connected to the Wi-Fi network that you wish to connect your Dimplex Hub to – the app will only list Wi-Fi networks that are currently connected.
  • Your Dimplex Hub will only connect to password secured Wi-Fi networks and will not connect to ‘open’ networks for security reasons.
  • Some iOS/Android devices occassionally have issues with Bluetooth during setup. If your Hub is failing to complete setup, check the above troubleshooting points. If you are still experiencing problems, then turn Bluetooth off on your device, ‘forget’ Dimplex Hub, then turn Bluetooth back on and start the setup process again. If you encounter any other issues during setup, contact us at Dimplex.co.uk/support
